Friends' Gardens (pics)

Good morning!

I have some pics from my friends' gardens to share.

The first set of pics are from my buddy Jon's house. This is his first year gardening, so be gentle ;-)

I warned him about the tomatoes when he planted them in the bed....but the burned hand teaches best....

The first two pics are from June 1st:

he planted an Arbol, a Cayenne, a Habanero, and two Jalapenos. His Black Pearl died.

Chile de Arbol. This variety has pods that point straight up. Any idea of the specific variety?

Here we are, middle of August, and the bed is a mess.

The Arbol has produced three waves of pods. Good hot little peppers!

A wild tangle of tomatoes, eggplant, mint, and peppers...like I said, I warned him:

A small harvest of Jalapeno, Habanero, Cayenne, and Chile de Arbol. Cayennes have zero heat.

Now for my buddy Jason's plants. His peppers are all in containers since he lives in an apartment.

He and I are growing the same superhot peppers, courtesy of Bill (and Neil from Hippyseedcompany).

Jason's having trouble getting pods to set due to the intense heat in the city where he lives.

So I had him move the plants below the balcony. I'll suggest Epsom Salts, too. I think that

cooling temps will be the real ticket, however.

That is AWESOME! i wish i had buddies that liked growing peppers like i do so we could compare! thanks for sharing those pics Josh!

Just be aware that it is poisonous in all its parts - flowers, leaves, wood and bark. And DON'T burn any of the prunings - the smoke is also toxic, and can make you or anyone who breathes it ill, 'though it's not likely to kill you. That said, they are pretty, and rarely cause problems - mostly due to ignorance on the part of the "user".

Thanks Xuan! Cooler weather/temperature slows down the growth of the scape and of course warmer temp. makes them grow faster. Commercial growers place bulbs with scapes out in cooler rooms with 40-45F temp which stops their growth when they want them to bloom at a certain date. Try placing your planted bulb in the coolest portion of your house and hopefully it will slow down a bit. X'mas is still 4 weeks to go though. I think it will be opening it's flowers in a week or two. Take a note of this. Next time you force your bulb, specially this one, plant it 2-3 weeks later than the date you planted this bulb this year. Your warm temp in Vietnam makes your bulb's scapes emerge faster I guess. Some varieties are faster, some are slower. At least you know this certain bulb is a fast one. It just wants to bloom NOW!!! Why pot them up when they are fat and happy in the ground? You can let them stay there and get fatter, dig them up right before August, let leaves dry and then cut, then store. This is what Soultan does to his ammies. Hope that helps. Good Luck!

Congrats on saving your roses, they sure look wonderful! That vine is, I think, the wild variety of morning glory - I have them ALL over the place and I notice that almost everyone in town has them too. They wrap themselves around the stems of other plants and do take over, and the tiny white flowers are not even attractive - I just keep pulling them out one by one as I find them.

Josh. You are very fortunate to have friends that are chiliheads. Like peppermeister said. That's why most of us come here. Thanks for sharing the pics! We have all learned about them maters the hard way.LOL :)

Hey, thanks guys!

I am very lucky to have a pepper support group locally ;-)
And I agree, sharing the adventure is a lot of fun. That's why I love coming here.

I have another friend who is growing a Jalapeno that is now two years old.
My brother is also a pepper grower, but he neglects his plants, unfortunately.

So right. I would love to have some LOCAL buds to work with on growing peppers. Local people would have very similar, weather/pest experiences to compare to. So this list is a life saver for those of us that don't have a buddy next door growing these things. Besides, the wealth of knowledge on this list is amazing.

It all looks good to me! the only thing worse than taking up alot of space with tomatoes is doing what I did this year,and that's putting Dill atlantic giant pumpkins in the same patch.I always wanted to try it and now I did but it took over the peppers.
