Round Up is glyphosate. Their patent on glyphosate expired some years ago so now there are quite a few other brands that are much cheaper. What you're looking for is 41% glyphosate. Tractor Supply and Walmart both carry house brands that are at least half the price of Round Up. The way it works is the glyphosate is absorbed by the leaves and from there is pulled into the roots where it kills the entire plant. If your orginal application beaded up and rolled off then that explains why it didn't work. The soap combined with a fine mist should fix that problem. As far as the bees go, I don't think it will bother them as they most likely won't get in it anyway but I'm not a bee expert. You might spray late in the evening while the bees aren't active so the herbicide will be dry by morning. I would consult with a bee expert just to make sure.

Well, they self sow readily in this mild climate, proof that the bird-planted seeds sprout easily after a moist chill. I'm already pulling seedlings this year and the nearest english ivy is in a wild area over a block away - most of us aren't growing it here, too invasive, too many problems. Hedera helix , English ivy, wash seed, sow 3m @ 39ºF, move to 70ºF for germ. I can't advise you with the baggie method; I haven't used it.

A couple of days ago I had the Helix haircut. I waited a long time to make the decision to get the cut. I have fine, thin hair. My hair does not do well with perms so I was so looking forward to finally having body in my hair without the chemicals. Unfortunately, the cut did not work for me. I look the same as I did before I had it. While I was there, the stylist kept telling me that my hair took the curl and I had more body than when I came in. It just wasn't so. I can't tell you how disappointed I was. Has anyone else had the same experience? If so, did you find a solution?

I grew it in my old garden, Annette. Perfectly well-behaved shrubby plant that offered an interesting evergreen texture. Always generated questions and interest from garden visitors :-) Definitely more of an oddity than a garden staple. Haven't seen it offered for sale in my area for years, tho. I think the more or less universal avoidance of English ivy in the Pacific Northwest has scared away any interest in virtually any selection of ivy, even one which never develops adult foliage or produces flowers.
