Anaheim is a New Mexico type and hangs down and is darker green and more of a flat type. I would guess the Anaheim is a heavier thicker pepper than the Hungarian Hot.

Hungarian hot is more rounded and less flat. is more yellow color and tends to point up before hanging down later as it gets more heavy.

there are different Anaheim from mild to hot.

the hungarina hot is pretty much plain hot. Unless it is the bananna pepper which looks like a hungarian hot but is totally no heat.

These peppers are very easy to tell the difference if you look at them fresh live. Pictures might make it a little more tricky to note the difference.
So I will guess they are more Hungarian Hots.

i'm growing hot wax also and they look just like mine.

as far as ready to pick ? temptation got the best of me and i had 1 yesterday that was only 2" and light yellow. it had some immature seeds , but was still nicely hot and i survived to help answer your question.

tomorrow i have a 4 incher that needs eating as there are 10 other pods hanging and i need to thin that plant. hehe !

Thank you both for your responses. I'm itchin' to eat one but also curious to see how big it gets.

I'm gonna join the chorus and say Hot Wax for no other reason than the pods are growing up to start.

We tried the hot pepper mix seed last year, grew about a dozen plants and not one of them was an Anaheim. Dunno why, hope you have better luck than we did.

i may have the answer why none of your peppers last year were anaheim !

did u plant multiple seeds in your seed starting pellets or pots ?

if so, when they germinated did u thin out all but the biggest,strongest and best looking seedling ?

i don't know but i bet anaheims may be a slow "bloomer" if u know what i mean.

i planted a pack of mixed seed also this year. it contained anaheim,hot wax,serrano,jalapeno and cayenne seeds at a rate of 20% each.

put 3 seeds in each peat pellet and as soon as they all germinated i only left the largest.

now i have a slew of cayennes and a couple hot wax and maybe 1 or 2 others i cannot yet identify until they pod up.

i didn't take into account the different growing characteristics of each plant.

the cayenne must be a vigorous plant and it must have been the "winner" in most pots.

to get a good mix of all the available varieties one would almost have to grow them all out (individually) to avoid thinning the slow growers. i sure can't tell the difference between pep seedlings when they are an inch tall.

this would make an interesting thread at the very end of the growing season to find out what everyone " got " who bought mixed seeds.

Bingo!!! Nice observation wildlifeman. I did exactly that, thinned out the little guys. Didn't even occur to me, but it makes perfect sense. My Anaheims this year are about 8-10 days behind everything else (I'm keeping a calendar - spreadsheet). We passed on the mixed seed this year and planted specifically what we wanted.

Now that I think about it, we didn't get any Cherry peppers either. We had Cayenne, Jalapeño, & Hot Wax only. Seeds from all three made it into this year's crop, but the Cayenne didn't germinate for some reason. The survivors are doing very very well, with the Hot Wax only about 3 days behind the Jalas, which are opening their first flowers as I type.

Goatlike, that is so interesting because my Hot Wax are coming in like gang busters, what I think are jals are pea size and the other plants haven't revealed themselves to me yet. Of course, we are in VERY different regions but all my plants were potted up at the same time.

I like Wildlifeman's idea of a thread at the end of the season to see who got what from the mixed packet. I am not getting a warm fuzzy that I am going to get cherries either but who knows!

I'd like to see the results people have had with the mixed seed as well. Especially in different regions. It'd be nice to know which "mix" peppers grow well in what climate.
