Yes it's normal for some. I'd say about half of my seedlings have multiple branches. I think it makes for a prettier tree :)

Thanks lovefrangis. I wish I had your climate zone! All of my seedlings are under growlights now, since I live in northern Utah. I do take them outside on warm days, however. They are doing very well.

I also think branching when young is a great sign. it will probably make your tree much fuller in the future.

My plumeria just went inside today because its going to be in the upper 40s for low temperatures next week and im afraid to lose my inflos.

Tropicalzone7, what state are you in? We've had beautiful weather here in northern Utah for the last couple of weeks. 40's at night and up to 80 in the daytime. We did have a dry cold front come through here about a week ago and we saw frost one morning, but nothing really got hurt. However, the forecast this Wednesday is for snow in the mountains, and in the 20's where I live. I think my plummies are staying inside till Spring.

I live right on the east coast (by the NYC metro area). The weather here has been pretty cool so far, with clouds on alot of days and day temps in the high 60s and low 70s. Lows so far have been in the high 50s, but a few have made it into the low 50s. This week will be the first time we had night lows in the 40s for the season, but I think I still have a few weeks to spare before freezing weather comes.
Looking back on records show the earliest date that freezing temperatures have been recorded in my area is October 11th (I think).

Are the leaves on the trees losing color by you yet? So far nothing has gotten any color on them but a few trees have been losing some leaves (not sure if its from the wind or what).

Thanks tropicalzone7. There's a cold rain this morning and it's snowing on the mountains. The temperatues tomorrow morning are going to be brutal. The leaves on the rocky mountain maple trees in the mountains have turned, but they are not quite yet at their peak. Maybe a week from now. The mountains just west of where I live are covered with these trees, so in about a week, the whole mountain range will be a blaze of red and orange. The trees in the valley are still green as can be. If we get a real hard freeze, the leaves on these valley trees will die and fall off before turning colors, unfortunately. Looks like winter is here in the Rockies.

Fall must be a really beautiful time in your area. Red leafed trees on the mountains in the distance and palm trees in the backyard (you cant ever get both in the tropics!) In a few years you will also have some huge fowering plumerias too.
Its proabably a sad thing to see all your cannas blackened to the ground, all your tropical plants back in your house, and your cold tolerant palms in boxes, but at least you can look forward to next year. I still cant believe tommorrows October. September felt like a long month, but it has cooled down so quickly :(

My pretty princess pluemria's inflo has buds on it now (at least 30), and my other pluemria lost a flower bud, but still has plenty of flowers to spare. I have about half my plants outside still. I start taking them in early so I dont have to rush them in when the first frost comes (Ive got about 100 pots to bring in!).

Wow, tropicalzone7, 100 pots? I thought I had a bunch! I ended up cutting all of my ensete bananas back to 3-4 foot stumps in order to get them inside, after pulling them out of the ground and potting them. It was sad to cut back my 20' banana plant to a stump! Yes, the cannas got it this morning, but tomorrow morning will be even more brutal. It is 9:00 PM right now and the temperature outside is already down to 35 F. I can't wait to get my plummies big enough to bloom like yours. I have one plant now with one huge fragrant blossom on it. It is Dwarf Deciduous. It lost all of it's leaves, and then started blooming.

I just found another seedling, only about 3 inches high, that is branching at every leaf. It has four new buds so far! Is this normal?

I guess its the end of the growing season for you, but next year will be the start of an even better growing season. 35f at 9:00 pm is pretty cold for sure. Im still amazed at how big your plants get in that short of a growing season (since some of your plants grow better than those in the sothern states). It must be getting very good care.

Wow another one is branching too. You are defiantely going to have alot of flower opportunities once it gets old enough (many late next summer, and if not next summer, then probably the summer after). And you already have one blooming, which is great (and probably pretty cool to see it blooming without any leaves on it!).

I counted all the pots I have (not counting the indoor pots) and I have 87 (so its better than 100, and Im only bringing in about 40). Not all those pots are big though (some are just hanging baskets, others im trying to root some cuttings in). I dont know how I ended up with that many, but at least I wont be doing too much buying next year (only if I find something really nice).

The weather here has improved over the last day or 2, last night only went down to 64 for a low temp and highs have been in the 70s. The 10 day forecast shows no sign of frost for my area yet, so I still have some time to take all my plants in.

My pretty princess plumeria, buds are growing very fast now and im hoping to see some blooms in about 2 weeks.

Thanks tropicalzone7! I guess we're addicted to plants, especially tropical in nature. It's tough passing up a new plant that you would like to buy, because there's no more room! I'm ready to buy another indoor light set up for my plumerias, the new T5HO lighting that gives off more lumens of light for my older plumeria, in hopes that they will bloom indoors. They are sure doing well under the old T12 system, so I'm excited about how well they will do under the new system. Man, I wish I had your temperatures right now! Although, I don't complain too much when it comes time to snowboard, which I love doing.

Its definately hard to pass up a new plant, and as the old ones get larger you end up having a hard time figuring out where they should go too. I think I might need some grow lights too soon since Im running out of bright windows to put my plants by.

Its been a nice weekend here (very humid on saturday with some rain, and sunny today). Its going to get a little cool this week but nothing that will damage anything.
