I just wanted to say a big 'thank you' to whomever posted a notice on one of the forum's regarding this new on-line seed shop.

I love the idea of ordering from a fellow gardener. Here is a photo of my first order from this shop. What a treat. Good number of seeds for an exceptionally fair price and fair shipping costs. The pretty seed packets are clearly marked; she included a complete order invoice and even a bonus packet of flower seed. What could be better!

I know this seed retailer personally and I can tell you that she takes great pride in her business not to mention the fact that she is an exceptional gardener and she is knowledgable about the seeds that she sells. It is so nice to see her get a good review.

I, too, ordered from Remy and she is EXCELLENT! It may have been me that recommended her, Mary, but a lot of people have. I ordered my Salvia subrotunda seeds from her because I could not find them anywhere else - hard to find seeds at very low prices and she always sends a bonus pack, too!

@pjb448 yep! Prices aren't too bad with shipping at XLB: https://shop.xlbpalmtrees.com/products/kumaon-palm-wagnerius?variant=16508827909. Note these are wagnerianus trees. It says /Takil but he doesn't actually sell any Takil trees, he's just mistaken by the old Waggie/Takil confusion. Pictures are of Fortunei plants which is also weird, but as a customer I can verify they are indeed Wagnerianus. An alternative is Montreal Palms (http://montrealplants.com/?s=wagnerianus&post_type=product). The trees aren't as big for the price and larger trees cost much more than at XLB. Shipping is extra and he doesn't give you an exact figure - you don't know until your card is charged because he charges you close to cost for shipping and doesn't know what the cost is until he brings it to post - it's based on weight. From my experience buying smaller trees makes more sense from Montreal palms, but bigger trees are best bought at XLB, provided they have the species and size you're looking for, economically speaking. I know that XLB will charge maximum $250 shipping to the US, so you can order as many trees as you want if you're buying enough to exceed $250 in shipping costs. The downside is that the minimum shipping cost is $50, so buying 3-gallon trees on their own is usually a waste of money. I don't know if there is a maximum per order at Montreal palms as I haven't bought in bulk from there yet, but I do plan to this coming Spring. I want some of his 10' needle palms!

I know nothing about the Paragon from Tomatofest so cannot comment on it. I have grown almost every Livingston variety offered by Victory Seeds and I know/trust their seeds for that reason. The Paragon I grew from Victory Seeds was true to type and the fruit I got matched Livingston's description and Victory's description. I've never grown DeWeese Streaked. Want to know why? It is a late season variety, and it can be very hard to get late-season types to set fruit early enough in our climate. If they don't set fruit in May/the first half of June, high temps and high humidity tend to shut down pollination/fertilization and then they won't set many, if any, fruits until fall. Then, since they take a long time to mature, you're racing the cold weather to get any ripe ones at all. I tend to avoid late-season varieties for that reason, unless I can plant them in Feb. in a pot and drag them into the garage at night. Using that technique, they'll usually set fruit for me in late April or early May and then I can be harvesting it by July. Otherwise, it isn't worth babying a plant through all that heat only to get a handful of fruit in the fall. I'd rather have tomatoes for months. I work hard to improve my in-ground soil and I spend a lot of money carefully blending a soil-less mix for my containers, so I don't want to waste "good soil" on a plant that is not highly productive. I can tell by the first week in June if a tomato plant is going to be productive for me, or not, by how many flowers/fruit it has set by then. In my area, the temps usually hit the point of no return during the third week in June, so if fruits aren't on the tomato plants (not talking bite-sized ones here, they're different) by that point, then that plant is not going to have a good year and is a waste of space. I also am not a really huge fan of the very large bicolors, having found them to be quite erratic in performance. Some years they taste great, other years they don't. Some years they are beautiful, other years they have a lot of cracking and aren't so great. If it rains a lot, especially after they're breaking color, their texture can get mushy or mealy and the excess moisture waters down the flavor. I've had better results from red/green bicolors than from yellow/orange/red ones. I don't know why but for whatever reason they seem better adapted to our climate. To be honest, even the bicolored cherry types I've grown weren;t good enough to earn a return engagement. It isn't that there was something wrong with them, but rather than there just wasn't anything that special. This year some of the Brad Gates' varieties I'm trying are bicolors and they may be late-season ones, but I've toyed with trying them for years and finally decided to just do it. However, they're "experiments" that I'm added in addition to all my regular tomatoes, which means I added more containers in order to have them and not that they are taking the place of one of our "usual" productive varieties. That makes them expendable if they aren't doing well. I have a certain number of tomatoes I expect to get for fresh eating, canning, salsa, pasta sauce, dehydrating, etc. so I am pretty ruthless about not growing types that won't/don't deliver. For me, late season types tend to not deliver. Your results might vary, and you certainly should try whatever pleases you, but remember that there is virtually nothing we can do here to offset the effect that high heat/high humidity have on tomato production and choose your varieties with that in mind. My requirements are that: 1. PEOPLE HAVE INTEGRITY, ARE TRUTHFUL, AND USE QUALITY MATERIALS 2. PRICE & PRICING FORMULA IS FAIR FOR ALL CUSTOMERS: pricing cabinets should be fair and not be reduced to a subjective formula, i.e., "10% the value of your home" or such nonsense. This is criminal in my book. It's not "what the market can bear" pricing that is fair. I TRULY BELIEVE THAT IS CABINET MAKERS PRICED CABINETS MORE FAIRLY THAN THEY DO NOW SO THAT THE AVERAGE HOME OWNER COULD "DO THE MATH" AND KNOW WHAT "X" CABINET WOULD COST TO BUY OR HAVE INSTALLED, THEN MORE KITCHENS WOULD BE REDONE. There would be so much business that you could not keep up. But no, NOT ONE CUSTOM CABINET/ OR SMALLER SHOP I WENT TO PRICED FAIRLY. ALL PRICING WAS SUBJECTIVE AND CONVOLUTED. THEY WERE SIZING UP MY BANK ACCOUNT BASED ON HOW LARGE OF A HOME I HAVE. 3. TALENT & PRIDE = QUALITY PRODUCT 4. SERVICE In a nutshell, I, too, went with the guy that had been in business for a long time and had a HUGE portfolio. He was not organized with that portfolio and I even offered to organize his thousands of photos and put them online! THIS is how impressed I was about his work. Furthermore, my bro is a builder and cousin is a builder here in Jax and used this guy's shop before. MY SISTER's kitchen was done by this guy two years earlier. I was very confident with his talent. I'll bet I went to his shop over half a dozen times just to see his work because they made FURNITURE, these HUGE phenomenal stained glass windows for a church in D.C., pulpits, GORGEOUS entertainment systems, etc. This guy's bread and butter works were affordable, custom cabinets with beautiful paint techniques. His work was like buying Tommy Bahamas cabinets by Lexington for half price. THAT being said, when I hired him, I had my ducks in a row and contract very detailed. I'm not a kid, nor am inexperienced in business. I KNOW WHAT I'M DOING. MY KITCHEN WAS DESIGNED AND NOT COMPLICATED. My problems stemmed because he just flat out lost his talent; over 80% of his workers had QUIT and he did not tell me. He later told me he had spent my $10K he had for work so far and he was left to do my kitchen himself. And it was a crap shoot! He didn't do ONE, SINGLE CABINET CORRECTLY. NOT ONE. AND HE LIED CONSTANTLY. He mis-measured, no appliances fit, installed shoddy and unleveled, mis-ordered the door profile, and made me madder than I have EVER been in my 49 years of living. I HAVE NEVER, EVER DEALT WITH SUCH A NICE, BELIEVABLE LIAR. I trusted him and he $crewed us. We have had to have 30+ doors reordered because of all of the mis-measurements, etc. I am almost three years into this fiasco and got motivated to get back to it. I went to install two drawer fronts last month and they were 1" too short. I'm going to have to reorder two drawers more. It's like a case of never-ending-BS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The end of this story is CabFiascoGuy changed his inc.'s name before our court case came up. He sued, we countered, I won but got nothing because of how crappy our laws are. The State of Florida allowed a thief to steal $10,000 of our money. We've put over $38,000 into them trying to FIX them. I just wish I had gutted everything and started over. It would have been CHEAPER. But no, I thought we could work this out and I had our granite installed so I'm now stuck for many years. I have a horrible ordeal detailed here on garden web. What a can of worms you opened this morning. I think Ill work on these cabinets today. IÂd like to be done before I hit the three year anniversary of when they were installed. I need to re-order two drawer fronts tomorrowÂ.

Sample Seeds...I absoloutley loved reading Remy's personal and honest thoughts on specific seeds at her site....I received my order yesterday....wonderful. And it would have still been wonderful, even if she had not included bonus packs...............

I wanted to chime in with my positive review. I just got my seeds today and am extremely pleased with this vendor. The price for both seed packets and shipping is wonderful plus the bonus pack she includes is a nice touch. The seeds were packaged in a small package within the larger package, something I prefer. Remy is a pleasure to do business with, and I'll definitely be a continually returning customer!

I feel good about my purchase there. It's a business I want to give my business to!

I found good stuff, got good tips, good prices, fast shipping, a human touch.

The notes she writes about her plants are a great resource, and the pictures aren't ones copied from other sites (which are usually not the right cultivar and are ALWAYS tinted to look nicer than they will turn out). I remember seeing her notes saying "it looks more ____ than shown in the picture". LOVE that.

Hey all. I am a newbie ordering seeds for the first time. I read positive stuff here on The Sample Seed Shop and I ordered and got the seeds super quick. And, a couple of bonus packs and the pack I got seem heavy - yeah! Just wanted to tell her fans that I took their advice. Only complaint is that I got rushed into buying quick because the paypal checkout was about to time out. Oh well, it was probably a good thing for me to stop. Happy to have found this place! I ordered from her site for the first time this year! What a gorgeous selection of heirloom tomatoes she has! Shipping was fast and the germination rates have been very good. I will order from her every Spring, along with my regular Pine Tree Seeds:)

She must have noticed the kinds of tomatoes I preferred because she sent me free samples of 2 other kinds. When I researched them, they also were the sweet kinds of beefsteaks I adore. That's going above and beyond:)

I found her companies name on the Upstate NY forum here and I'm so thankful I did. I love giving local people my business.

Ordered from Remy for the 2012 growing season - tomato seeds had 100% germination rate! Remy includes free samples on top of what you choose, and makes sure that they are suitable for your growing zone. Browsing the catalog site to read her descriptions gives me hours of pleasure. Amazing selection of heirloom and native varieties. Just ordered again for this year. I loved getting the handwritten seed packets last year & I'm really looking forward to this year's shipment!

I ordered from her too this year and got great service. I had a problem with the cart and my Internet (ordering on a Sunday) and she quickly replied to questions. The seeds came quickly, a bonus too. I'll keep her on my short list for very reasonably priced seeds and service that makes ME smile. :)
