new cutting, questions about rooting, and wrinkled stem

I bought a new plant about 2 weeks ago and received a freebie with it. It has no roots so I have started the rooting process. I dipped the tip in rooting hormone and planted in a pot with half cactus mix, half perlite. I watered with superthrive until the water came out the bottom of the pot. I have not watered it again since. It has leaves but they are still small and closed up. I pulled it out of the pot to see if by any chance there are any roots yet and there aren't. I put it back in the pot. I did notice towards the bottom of the stem there is some wrinkling. I don't think it is rotten. I had one that was rotten and it looks nothing like that one did. It has been in the 100's here it was 105 today. Should I be watering this plant??? I'm afraid to because I don't want it to rot but I'm afraid it is getting too hot. What do you think? Thanks!
