plumeria please give feed back

Hello,
I was given a rooted pink plumeria in June. It is a product of "Grow Hawaii". I have been watering it only when it is dry, usually between 1 and 2wks, as listed on the packaging directions to do so. I keep it out on a covered porch with plenty of light.
I live in New England. I think this summerÃ¯Â¿Â½s humidity has made this planted plumeria happy since it has been blooming since I received it....
I am concerned about rot or fungus, the"dry skin peeling" on the stem since I received it & about 3 weeks ago I noticed a couple of black spots on leaves. Today I noticed that the stem was wrinkled & kind of soft. (White stuff came out when I poked it with a needle, I read to do that to see if it is healthy.)
Please take a look at my photos. I would greatly appreciate feedback on keeping my plumeria healthy.

Thanks for the moral support folks. JPW - While I am not averse to the pee idea, I think the neighbours might have something to say. This is a very public area between a row of town houses and a park in a historic city. Bill P. I imagine we can get alfalfa pellets but I don't want to break one of my basic composting principles, which is NEVER to spend any money on it! (I did break that just once when the city offered large bins at Â£5 each.) For nitrogen I rely on stuff I collect or scrounge. The grass over here has kept growing all through this mild winter so there are plenty of lawn mowings around. Some people were mowing in the Christmas holidays. hawaiianninja- That is not the correct information for use on a rooted, grafted plant which was in the first sentence of Marcy's post. And if you google "problems with miracle gro" you will find a quarter of a million reasons why these products are very bad for long term growing especially plumerias which need healthy soil (for decades) and soils that do not retain moisture (like MG soil). Finally, it is better to say "I have had excellent success in zone_____ doing the following...." rather than works everytime, because from my experience, having tried this and many other tricks, nothing actually works everytime,( unless you live in the tropics or have a greenhouse which increases your odds). i am not at all sophisticated on growing stuff plants hang around just to frustrate bare rooting plummies is basically forcing dormancy most of mine are in 5 gal pots in the fall i look around, based on size decide that ok in 2 wks from today (say saturday) i can store these x number so i quit watering and cut the leaves off nxt w/end do same for another x for two weeks out after the first two weeks potting mix is dry pull plummies out, shake off excess mix, throw in garage last fall i put away about 80, took five w/ends cause of big ones i needed help with. (a few are in larger pots). in spring, repot. need to rehydrate, so water the s* out of. morn before work eves after leaves start to show, move into feeding program epsom salt won't hurt i see a link up there to emersons site he lives just down the road i've got some good ideas from him difference 1 he knows what he's doing, i'm just jerking around 2 he has a thousand, i have 100 btw, last edition of mary helen book before she died (god bless,hope she was happy as she seemed) had section on nan and the plumeria man.

I needed a change after my mother died... So we moved the family here... Kevin went to Nestle's on a ride down there once and they told him you move here we have a job for you... We were very lucky... Jobs are terrible here.... Now he works for Good Year Tire for the past 10 years. Ok the rain is letting up a little and the sun did try to come out once but did not make it...LOL It was very windy also today so I took my plants in the house for a little while, then put out when it seemed a lot calmer... We had a downed tree in our driveway this morning... We have learned the value of a good chainsaw... :-) This is not the first time something like this happened... So we were perpaired(sp) I got seeds today and will start that venture this weekend...LOL Part of me wants to and the other does not... I emailed someone on the boards here and I am sending her a few... Some of the seeds are not many only 5 seeds... Between the two of us someone should get a plant or two...LOLOLOL... She is a very nice lady.... glad I came to the boards just for that.... You also have been very nice... I thank you for that... I am hoping on that summer heat also to help with my babies.. Dave have you ever seen a cutting that was a little soft turn to a good cutting??? The reason I asked is because I told you I pulled one out of the soil well it was soft... So I did get the rootone today at a feed/supply shop . I recut a little bit put the rootone on it and watered a little and now have it under a 40 watt bulb... When the sun comes back out I will put in the sun for several hours aday then some shade... Do you think this cutting has a chance???? It could be me just wanting it to live but I think it feels a little firmer tonight... Who knows...LOL You better hurry if your coming South for the prices of everything here is going UPPPPPPP.... Danville is known for its unemployment.... We are the highest of the State for no jobs... its a shame that they just dont seem to want to grow...They are in some areas but not alot... Oh well.. I love the country... we live next to a farm and no one can see our house :-) We live on a gravel road with only two other houses on it and we are all spaced out so no one sees the other unless we go visiting... TG,
Any chance you put into a larger pot? that will help right away and you can straighten it out and stake it. I would use a chop stick as a stake and use a 2 gallon container with cactus soil mix just to keep it simple.

I think its root stress causing the spots and wrinkles and possibly the bark issue. I bought one of those cuttings about 13 years ago. Its very fragrant.

I am so happy to receive your reply! This was my first post, thankyou. Is that your plumeria tree in the photo? Its fantastic! I hope I can grow mine to a compareable size someday...
I think it needed to be watered, I watered it last night. Today wrinkles were gone & it was firm again. I did indeed take your advice on the bigger pot and cactus soil mix. The roots were starting to grow out the drain holes. While repotting I noticed a couple little cobb webs on the leaves...It looks much happier in its new pot! I will post a photo in the a.m. with natural light.
Do you think its ok to add orchid bark to the soil?

I grew 3 Plumies in pots for about 6 years while living in NY. They grew well but did need large pots. I am not an expert and can share what I did which worked for me.

Mine spent all summer outdoors gradually moved to the sunniest spot possible (on my deck). I say gradual because you will burn the plant if you put it in full sun after spending the winter indoors. So bump up the light gradually.

I was not fussy about soil. I used a mix of Miracle Gro, cactus soil and small wood chips. I also added perlite. The idea is to keep the mix free draining but loamy enough to hold some moisture so you don't have to water every day.

I would move my trees inside when there was danger of frost or the night temps dropped below 50 consistently. If there is just one night or two below 50 they are okay. But when the nights stay cold, bring them in or you can get rot.

Indoors I tried two methods. The first 4 years I forced them into dormancy by removing the leaves and putting them in a crawl space in the basement. I stopped watering and left them until March. I would move them to a sunny window and they would start to leaf out. They stayed indoors until the weather settled above 60's.

The years following this, I moved them inside and grew them under floor lamps. Most were budded and I didn't want to lose the flowers. They grew well under the lights and I got the flowers.

Spider mites are their enemy and appear every winter. No matter what I did I got them. Even when they were leafless, they had webs all over. It sounds like you have them. If your tree is still outside, hit the plant with the hose and wash them off. They will return when you move the tree inside. You can try heavy duty insecticides, but I don't like using those inside the house. I did use an oil spray which seemed to keep them at bay until Spring. Once the trees go outside the spider mites go away.
