Hot pepper, Bell Pepper & Rhubarb leaves getting eaten!
Comments (1)If I had to guess, I'd say slugs. They did a number on my peppers last year when we had an unusually wet summer (I found some IN peppers that I had picked. I didn't always notice the small holes. Even hot peppers). I've seen them on my rhubarb too. Beer traps work to an extent. I don't know for certain, but I believe that sluggo is approved for organic gardening. Diatomaceous earth is organic as well. Hope that helps -- good luck!...See MoreDoes this pepper look familiar to anyone?
Comments (13)you said the peppers were beginning to turn orange. did they continue to red? if so it looks a lot like what was given to me, labeled as tabasco. mine was extremely badly stunted (spending 2+ months in a half inch of soil in one of those seed started things. my friend had given up on it, and I took it over. the plant was started in feb and is now barely 10" tall, but has produced close to 200 pods. all of which are far smaller than a tabasco should be (the biggest ones reaching 1/2" long), so I assume the pod growth is stunted too. the pods look much like a piquin pepper, except they start out yellow then turn red. it's either oddly stunted, or a cross between a tabasco and a piquin. either way it's an awesome plant with exceptionally tasty juicy and fiery little pods. I will be doing my best to regrow it next year....See MoreEggs: Does anyone eat poached or hardboiled anymore
Comments (98)Beverlyal...goodness, I hope I didn't come across as one who thinks anyone's taste in food is superior to that of anyone else. Jeepers, I have a secret penchant for Chef Boyardee's Beef-a-Roni (which amuses my husband no end), so who am I to take on airs! :D I was simply puzzled at your expressed distaste for poached eggs, since you and I are in complete agreement regarding cooked-white, runny-yolk, and if the poached egg in question meets those criteria, it just tastes like an over-medium or a properly soft-boiled egg to me...the butter for the poached being provided by the hollandaise, and for the soft boiled, by the toast I eat it on. But, it may well be that you taste something I do not, or perhaps the texture difference turns you off. As you say, it would be boring if everyone had the same tastes...there would be more competition for favorite foods as well! :D By the way, there are many things that I'm lukewarm on that I could eat with pleasure if they were smothered in hollandaise....mmmmm!...See MoreThis bug is eating my bell pepper and Basil leaves!
Comments (7)Caterpillar for sure - from a moth. It does look like an armyworm - usually there are many more than just one. There are a number of moth larvae that feed on veggies. They are called 'worms' but they are really caterpillars/moth larvae. You can email your photos to the UF Entomology Dept. & they will usually be able to ID it for you. Lyle Buss is the Insect ID person: http://entnemdept.ufl.edu/about-us/contact-us/ They also have a neat site for FL insect info: http://entnemdept.ufl.edu/creatures/...See Moregroovy1
