Large Jade Cutting
Comments (118)If you understand eBay's feedback system you'd understand why this seller has so much positive. Once you leave feedback as a buyer, you can't retract. Most people leave it the day the apparently healthy plant arrives not knowing they're in for problems down the line. I imagine that's the case with all of the people who have had a bad experience with this seller; including no telling how many not on Garden Web. I used to do the same until I was screwed by a seller (montanaman59701). Now I wait until the last possible day as eBay's Customer Service suggested. And, I'll bet, so do these people from now on. Buyers have 45 days from date paid to file a case to get money back if a purchase is misrepresentated or defective and 60 days to leave feedback. On day 59 I left negative for the above seller. Comments (1)Hey, Linda! Nice to see an update on your Big Jade! My Big Jade Cutting was doing really well....until a gang of raccoons tore it out of the pot one night. It had grown three large clumps of root, which I discovered while sifting through the potting medium. Thankfully, one clump of roots survived intact, so I re-potted the cutting and basically started over. I was so upset that I kept over-night vigil for several weeks. But it started to affect my daytime energy levels, so I got one of those live-traps....and I trapped the hell out of some raccoons! I relocated seven 'coons all told; caught two skunks (that was fun); and even caught my cat once. Anyhow, despite the set-back, the Big Jade is shaping up. Back when I got it: And more recently: (I've pruned off *even more* since this picture was taken!)...See MoreClear gel forming on stems when rooting cutting in water
Comments (23)The slime is pretty common in water rooting, I think it's called mucky film or something quaint like that but like everyone has said, just rinse it off every few days when you change the water. I've had great success with rooting in water, I've had some spectacular fails too. The big game changer for me was actually changing the water and rinsing the film off. I didn't do it for years and easily 75% of my plants trying to root in water rotted. I'm currently experimenting with cuttings from an ancient hearty pothos using a rooting hormone in water. Seems a bit counterintuitive but it appears to be working nicely and almost halved the time it normally takes for the nodes to root out....See MoreLarge jade, cutting and rooting advice?
Comments (7)Just watch it closely, they recover from under-watering better than from over-watering. And make sure that 'drip' pan is empty of water. Are the cuts on original plant green? What you don't want to see is blackening - sign of rot. As long as it is healthy, it should callus in short time. I use cinnamon powder on large cuts since it is a natural fungicide. Btw, cuttings survive very long time without being potted, even months. I wouldn't water them for a while since rootless plant can't take water in, if it sits in wet soil it may start rotting....See Moreken_adrian Adrian MI cold Z5
