Plumeria blooms don't open

I live in Southern CA and have a 5 year old Plumeria planted in the ground. I brought it home from the nursery with beautiful open blooms. It spent the next 3 years in a pot where it didn't bloom the first two years (needed a little fertilizer - oops!). This is it's second summer in the ground and both years I get lots of blooms, but the flowers don't open. Any suggestions????

Do you mean the buds don't open, or do they partially open? Do they fall off, or just stay as buds and than turn black or brown?

I think mine is doning the same thing.
I planted it in my yard last year.. it was blossoming at the time, fully opened flowers, but this year, the flowers get to a stage just before opening, then fall off. I fertilized it as well. could the wrong fertilizer cause the flowers to not open fully.
and NO the answer is not that it is a variety that doesnt open fully.

I must applaud your dueling victory with the red spiders, insects, and worms! Haha. This might be obvious, but I just want to make sure your not one of those people who think bonsai is an indoor accessory. In other words, keep it outside. Some azaleas are late bloomers, while others may have bloomed already. I can't give you much advice otherwise, as you live on the other side of the planet as me. Also, I am not an expert. Camellia buds don't open fully --flower blight?

The first one sounds like flower blight. The second one could be but it also could be caused by wildy girating temperatures and-or soil moisture. I have had winters when well timed temp changes made the shrubs stop blooming and then they restarted several weeks to a month later. There is not much one can do when Mother Nature interferes... other than plant camellias that bloom earlier (sasanquas for example) or later (one of the April Series for example). The key lime is self fruitful and needs no pollination to produce fruit. If you could tell us a bit more about your tree it would help. Like what zone its in, is it an in ground or container tree, how is the tree treated (watering and feeding), how much sun does it receive????? Andi

Glad to hear that they are doing well. I will probably just leave WONDER OF IT ALL. Now that its not blooming I forget how aggravated I was at the non opening blooms and just remember how gorgeous the few blooms that did open were. But I think its a problem here in my garden with really really edged daylilies. You know, I went on all those garden tours here this summer and I do did not see any of the really super edged chicken fat daylilies at all. So maybe they just don't open here (on LI) or maybe its my garden. WONDER OF IT ALL is the worst but I have SOCIAL GRACES from MARYOTTS has trouble opening. I had no pictures of it this summer because of the partially open blooms. Yet Carla in NJ has it and its fine in her yard.
