pit: can you clarify how long and thick the cutting should be? I know Ive read in the past its best if you can get a cutting with last yrs wood and approximately the width of an adult finger. But if I followed those rules my cutting would have to be well over a foot long. Am I missing something? Also I just took a lil cutting from my uncles fig tree which is either dormant or real close to being dormant. Since he plans on giving me a rooted tree next spring I decided to experiment with this cutting by placing it in some loose soil horizontally like someone suggested a few weeks ago. You will have to harden them off and get them used to the UV light. That takes at least a week. If the weather is fine set them outside in a shady place. The north side of your house is fine. The next day move them to a place with dappled shade--like under a tree or where they have morning sun and are shaded the rest of the day.
