Here on southern Maine I found many green branches were being cut off Weeping Willow April and May. So much that I didn't think the tree would live another two years. I found out after getting rid of ground hpgs, porcupines, skunks and opossums that it was 8 grey squirrels doing the deed. They just climb and bite the branch off...no reason. Was like catnip to them. So far I dispatched all but one and willow tree is doing much better. I will get yhe last one eventually...I am retired.

All I can say is, dont plant them in your yard. Admire them in public spaces instead. We had two in our one acre yard, and they were so messy, huge knees poked out of the ground, making it hard to mow, altho grass barely grew there anyway. Pondy

Hi silverwind, I have some cuttings of Corkscrew & Weeping Willows that I can send to you, either or both. They are not rooted yet but have been in water for over a month and will root if given ample mulch and plenty of water. They grow really fast. Keep them topped out for bushier trees and to reduce damage from the severe wintry weather elements. Send me an email with your mailing address and I will get those out to you. If it is still too cold there, you can keep them in a basement under light or in a sheltered area on the south side of your house covered with a white trash bag or clear plastic and they will be okay until it warms. kings_rose Believe me that it wouldn't be that beautiful for much longer if you kept it indoors. Some plants really shouldn't be overwintered indoors, and willow is one of them. Hardy plants like that actually need cold period and Al (and others) pointed that out. It may live, but would be very much weakened and may not last that long outdoors after that. I think you did right by moving it outside, and as long as you don't let it dry out completely while in the garage, it has much better chance of survival. Rina
