Here are some interesting uses for HP that I found: # Some horticulturalists and users of hydroponics advocate the use of weak hydrogen peroxide solution ("Spanish water") in watering solutions. Its spontaneous decomposition releases oxygen that enhances a plant's root development and helps to treat root rot (cellular root death due to lack of oxygen) and a variety of other pests. [19][20] There is some peer-reviewed academic research to back up some of the claims.[21] # Laboratory tests conducted by fish culturalists in recent years have demonstrated that common household hydrogen peroxide can be used safely to provide oxygen for small fish.[22][23] Hydrogen peroxide releases oxygen by decomposition when it is exposed to catalysts such as manganese dioxide. # Mixed with baking soda and a small amount of hand soap, hydrogen peroxide is effective at removing skunk odor. [24] # If a dog has swallowed a harmful substance (e.g. rat poison, chocolate), small amounts of hydrogen peroxide can be given to induce vomiting. [25] # Hydrogen peroxide is used with phenyl oxalate ester and an appropriate dye in glow sticks as an oxidizing agent. It reacts with the ester to form an unstable CO2 dimer which excites the dye to an excited state; the dye emits a photon (light) when it spontaneously relaxes back to the ground state. Similar to Ferti-gate systems. A closable entry point into your mainline with a small hose attachment sucking hydrogen solution from a bucket container(might be difficult to get a certain controllable concentration at the plant). Like the hose-end sprayers used to fertilize your lawn(this might give more control over concentration). The hard part is to establish the concentration level of the hydrogen peroxide solution being sucked up into the water hose stream. I guess trial and error using ever increasing concentration of HP until there is plant damage. What do experts recommend as far as the solution concentration for plant roots? JMHO and just pour on the right concentration on the soil below the plant from a watering can or aerate your soil and drain or irrigate less. Aloha

I like the use of Hydrogen Peroxide much better than using many of the other more toxic substances in the garden. However, I do have one MAJOR point to make here. NOT ALL BUGS and FUNGUS are BAD. I don't think Hydrogen Peroxide can tell the difference between disease fungus or pest bugs and the good plant supporting fungus or the good soil microbes. If you always go sterilizing your soil, you will always have to baby your plants since there will be no good microbes to attack the bad ones. So while the limited use of something like hydrogen peroxide to treat a specific and present problem is appropriate, I would not go drenching everything in your yard with it in an attempt to stop all possible future disease attacks since killing off all the good biota will leave your garden far more open to attack in the future that if you had done nothing. (This is like "the whole over use of antibacterial stuff causes us to have weaker immune systems and stronger super bacteria" argument basically.) So, interesting and helpful but don't try to use it like a magic bullet on everything all the time.

I'm afraid it wont work, unless you can keep a small but constant stream of hydrogen peroxide flowing into your DWC. The O2 in H2O2 quickly dissipates in the nutrient solution (NS)and once the O2 is used or leaves the NS you would need to add more H2O2 to replenish it. From my research H2O2 isn't really used to increase O2 levels in NS, but rather as a way to kill off bacteria in the NS. Often people who are running DWC systems have a problem with the water tempature being to warm which lowers the dissolved oxygen levels and also increases the growth bad bacteria. However there is a drawback to using H2O2 because it kills off both good and bad bacteria. If you are using a quality chemical fertilizer then this will be ok.. But if you are using any type of organic or organic/chemical fertilizer it will not be advisable. I was curious as to why you would want to completely remove the airpump? If it is to remove the use of electricity look up "non-circulating hydroponics" or "passive hydroponics"

Well, I just took the plunge. I watered all my plants with 1 1/2 tablespoons of peroxide in a gallon of water. The article said to gradually work up to 2 1/2 tablespoons of peroxide to a gallon of water. I sure hope it works ok. Thanks for the info orchid guy. I hope everyone takes advantage of reading the article about plumeria and peroxide. Along with orchid guy's info, the article is really helpful, especially about root rot when starting cuttings. I wish I'd seen the article earlier this summer when I lost 3 cuttings to root rot. :o( Crafty
