Anyone knows where I can buy broccoli De Cicco plants?
Comments (3)Fran, De Cicco is not one of the more common varieties that the places I know would sell as plants via mail or even at local nurseries, farm stands, etc. But the good news is that you **DO** have time to order seeds and plant. In my zone 5 I always direct seed my broccoli in a short row and then transplant out for there to where I want the plants. Here in my zone 5 just north of you I'd be direct seeding them around May 1 outside as I do for all broccoli, cabbage, b sprouts, etc, so for you in a zone warmer that would mean about mid-April. The seedlings grown outside are beautiful, but you need to be sure to transplant when they are about 5 weeks old or less . I assume you know your seed sources so order from some place where you know the turnaround time will be less than about two weeks. Or perhaps you even have a nursery with eeeds racks where you could get them, but again, De Cicco is not one of the more common ones sold, as you know. Comments (2)Even at Lowe's, I am surprised a Sago was all they had. I know Home Depot's usually always have some others in stock, besides a Sago. Splitting hairs here, I suppose, but a Sago palm isn't a real palm, it's a cycad, and a member of a very ancient plant group. But it is easier to grow in my opinion, although it grows quite slowly. Palms as houseplants are not seasonal items, and should be available throughout the year from virtually any place that sells houseplants, including Walmart. The ones you find in little 3-5 inch pots are Parlor palms, and the easiest of all the true palms for inside culture....See MoreWhere can I buy a big needle palm?
Comments (3)I know several post have expressed concerns about Ty Ty Nursery and I don't know what they bought so I really can not comment BUT I have purchased several very large Needle Palms from them and have had no complaints since I did .... I have had them here in zone 7 for several year, transplanted them once and they have grown very well ... about $260 a pop .... 25 gallon I think they were....See MoreWhere can I buy Howea Palms?
Comments (2)Both of the ones I have, I purchased when they were very small. One was bought on ebay, the other I saw on the sidewalks of Manhattan (regret not buying the lot of them then). They are terrific palms indoors (probably my favorite as a true indoor palm).--Mine do, however, spend the growing season outside. Large ones are relatively expensive when you do see them sold. If you can't wait until they get big, you'll just have to shell out the money when you find one. Although they may be slow they are reliable growers, and being I have a lot of palms, it wasn't as though I was sitting around waiting for them to grow. See what you can find on ebay. Good luck!...See Morepapalmguy
