Taj mahal bud drop HELP!

I'm really bummed. My beautiful new 5 gal taj mahal

that I got at JJ's open house last Sat is dropping buds. It has two nice big inflos and the buds have looked like they should open any minute for a week now. Instead they are starting to fall off about ten now.

I have read on this forum that this is common with this variety. Sure wish I knew that before I bought it. Just wondering what anyone else has experienced with Taj Mahal.

I have seen it in bloom at John's and it is so unique and beautiful I really hope this problem will correct it'self.

I know we have had several cooler days in so cal maybe that is it.

I bought my Taj Mahal from John 2 years ago. I brought my 5 gal home with inflo. Within the week the buds started to drop, sometimes its because of heat, sun, humidity changes, different micro climates, plus who knows if John had the Taj M in a Greenhouse before the open house.
Well alter in the season my Taj sent out new inflos that did not make it before the cold, but it bloomed the next season. I also have several inflos on her this season also, waiting for them to bloom.

Even if the inflos on your Taj M fall off it is a good bloomer, sending out new inflos on short tips. Good luck

Tamala, It looks awesome!! Yes!! I'm so proud... Dave was right.. It was forming an inflo on my tree while it was dormant. I cut in the spring and if I left it on my tree, it would have done the same. ( Pushed an inflo) So that is why you are getting am inflo from this cutting!! Dave is spot on as usual... ;-) Just continue to keep this tree thriving as it is.. It will drop some , like he mentioned. It's a young tree.. Also, buds on Taj Mahal are fickle.. Lol!! Once I see one open, I run to get the camera. Don' t worry.. It a trait of this variety from what I have read.. I'm just so tickled that it looks so beautiful... Strong work!! You should be so proud !! I know that I am!!! ;-) It's a beauty. Three tips and now it will form more branches from this inflo.. A beautiful tree forming for you!! YES!!! YOU just made my day! I have selected this Brazilian Quartzite (called CRISTALITA WHITE) for my kitchen countertops...two book matched slabs. The slabs are being sent to the fabricator. No one at the distributor was able to tell me what the coppery looking areas/veins are. I do like them a lot, but I am wondering if they are going to cause any problems down the road, based on what is in this thread. They are smooth to the touch areas - same as the light gray/white that surrounds them. Does anyone have any experience with this type of stone - Brazilian quartzite with copper/iron veining? A second question is that these slabs are currently polished, and I was leaning towards a honed finish. Initially, my fabricator told me that they hone all quartzites as a policy, based on their experiences and outcomes. But now he is saying that my slabs don't need to be honed - they should stay polished. I have used this fabricator before with excellent results, so I trust them, but I am looking for input from other professionals and remodelers regarding my specific type of quartzite slabs with the veining. Lilyfinch, mine was 60!!!! Of course, that's just dreaming and many are OoStock. I'm limiting myself to 10 and half of those at least are presents. I'm so happy DH suggested that for Xmas! : ) I'm like you; my interest in clothes has gone to ZERO since growing roses. I see everything in terms of how many roses does that equal! I'm getting some others that are only available fomr RVR and the few that are sold out at ARE, I plan to buy from Burling, such as Excellenz von Schubert, Green Ice and Sweet Chariot. From RVR, I'm getting E.B. LeGrice (on Moses' recommendation), Orfeo, Golden Buddha and another that I forget! Too many roses. It took me all season just to remember those I added to the pack this year. I worked all yesterday on the split rail and only have a couple more holes to fill and posts to set before I can add the deer netting on top. Then I defy any deer to come on my property.

Hi Jeannie Schaldach We love, love, love our Cristallo. Everyone who has seen it has fallen in love with it. In our case, it has been bomb-proof so far. We prepare food, cook, and eat on Cristallo surface. We eat every meal on our island, and we have to young kids who are not too careful. The countertop has been indestructible, so far. No stains, scratches or chips. However, our installer has told me, right after the installation is finished, that the stone can be brittle, therefore we have been very careful to make sure that it doesn’t get hit hard or in a funny angle. And we haven't re-sealed ours yet. I was told by the installer that it won't be necessary. Hope this helps. Cheers~

So far all of my buds have gotten to this point and
fallen off :-( I am still hopeful that at least some of them will make it.

That looks like a nice healthy inflo, Ellen! Hope some of the younger buds will stay on so you can see some flowers this summer! I bought a Taj Mahal too, but mine didn't come with inflos so I don't expect to see flowers this summer :-(

Im so sorry for the bud drop. hopefully with all of those blooms it will recover form the reason which caused the blooms to drop off.

Ok I admit it, I gave in and literally peeled this one open. Small weak version of what it should be but better than watching it drop.
So far none have opened on their own they just contine to drop

don't know if this will help but used to experience the same on Bali Palace (similar shaped bloom). Jack Morgan of Kimi's told me to use a fertilizer with more potassium. You might try that.

As I read this thread, I felt like it was me who wrote it! HELP! I'm experiencing the SAME issue with my TM. I actually put it in my greenhouse thinking I could get the buds to open. It has dropped 99% of it near opened buds. I'm so sad! Wish I hadn't bought it. I usually have very good luck with all my plumies!!!

My Taj Mahal does the same thing..

It has huge Inflos and has been blooming all summer long, but it does seem to drop pre maturely. I watch and hope that they make it to the point of finally opening. Most do, but a lot do drop. This happened last year as well. A friend of mine experiences the same on his Taj Mahal.

Could it just be the variety ?

I have heard from several people that "she is a Drama Queen.) LOL I just wonder if anyone knows if she likes direct sun, shade, etc. VERY frustrating!!
