Waimea - worth the wait

The first bloom of 'Waimea' finally opened!

Photo does not do it justice. My camera has a hard time capturing the saturation and exact hues. There should be no light pink in it at all.

Anyway, it was worth the wait. Nice fragrance too...sort of like 'cactus flower'.

Laura, you were right about this one.

I have Waimea...love it....this year she is not happy with me though as I moved her....putting her back to the same spot as last year in the yard. roxanne

My friends who own the garden center where I spend all my money have stunning landscaping at their home. Lots of specimen trees and well planned beds but no hostas, "because of the deer". As you might expect, I've been advocating for them to adopt deer control and get some hostas. Last week we did a garden walk to see the Japanese maples blooming, and they showed me a small out of the way bed that they were going to try and asked my opinion about which hosta to plant there. First Frost was my recommendation. It's beautiful, reliable and looks good all year. Nice specimen, Brandy, it's going to be big this year! Kathy

What a beautiful display - they look amazingly fresh at this particular time of growth. I really love this stage of the growing season - so much promise and the anticipation of amazing beauty. Thank you, Karin - I love looking at your photos... we still have ice under the snow but today I am putting out the patio furniture with 14-degree temperature. Winter boots on but sweatshirt instead of bulky winter coat! :D To Saija and others who still have a ways to go, like me, soon enough we will be getting happily reacquainted with our plants too! I wonder which of my potted hosta will pip first??? I am NOT going to think of "losses" (cringing here) if I can help it. Gorgeous day today - whatever you all are doing today, I wish you much enjoyment!

Like oldrosarian said, only you can answer that question. That rose is beautiful and if that’s the only one that makes your heart sing :) wait. You mentioned you were leaning towards pink and there are other very beautiful pink Austin’s available right now. I personally love my Mary rose, but this one is very beautiful also. Good luck!

Thanks for the follow-up comments. Here is another article and set of reviews that I think gives a good overview of which options on induction ranges are better to emphasize in a purchasing decision. Their conclusion is that the key feature the consumer should really think about is the controls since they are used all of the time and can really drive you crazy if you make a decision that's wrong for you. (So, keeping this piece of advice in mind, I should probably just ignore the crummy oven racks I complained about in the Café.) https://therationalkitchen.com/best-induction-range-reviews/ wdccruise--In regards to the missing LG review in the previously linked article: I saw this same article last year before updates were made, and as I recall at that time one of the things the LG did very poorly was baking the sugar cookies. They were very unevenly browned. awm03--My local appliance store did have a Beko. When we discussed this line with the salesman, he told us he is more impressed with the line for refrigeration than for cooking. I also did a little research on the company and their European presence. Apparently in Europe this is considered a low level line. Thanks for the FP size comparison to your Twin Flex oven.

rox: hope your Waimea bounces back in the new location!

barb: Patience! This is a several year old cutting.

This one has two branches. The one branch is blooming. The other branch did this weird fasciation (or cresting) thing resulting in 6 new tips. I'll probably let them all grow for a while and see which are the most vigorous, then trim off the weaker ones leaving maybe 3. Thanks! ;-)

Waimea, to me, has a citrus flower scent. At first I could not place it, then realized 'Orange Blossoms!'. Must say though that the fragrance seems to change a bit from day to day.

Wow Dave, your Waimea is amazing! I was given a cutting of Waimea a few years back, and it also bought one from Matt. The cutting from Matt was very thick and I believe it has 4 or 5 tips, one of which sealed over but like Laura said, I too am hoping for this one to bloom! Your scent description makes it even better! I love the scent of orange blossoms!

Thanks again for posting your pic, and Roxy, your pic is also gorgeous! I cannot wait to see my two bloom someday!

that's great. I am in the same boat as Rox, Barb, and Laura (which is pretty good company to be in) as mine has not bloomed this year. Thanks for sharing. It will help keep me on program for next year's blooms.
