The Passiflora is one of those "Weird & Wonderful" things that just blow your mind! What shape and color! I bought a Hymenocallis bulb, planted it... and here it sits. It hasn't even rooted in well. Even the Scadoxus bulb is finally showing leaf tips... but the Hymenocallis could be a ping pong ball for all it's grown! What's the secret? Yours is gorgeous, Cindee! It looks so delicate and fragile! But it's very pretty... I wish mine would do something! And your Rain Lily... aren't they wonderful little things?!! I just love them! Do you have small specels on the top side of your leaves? This is the tell tail sign of the Spider mite. Your Malathion treatments may be in vein. Mite are not inscects they are mites therfore they do not respond to traditional chemical applications. Your in florida so I don't Know what products you can get your hands on but you need a miticide. Neem oil is available almost everywhere and it has a miticidal component as well as being a fungide. If you do have access to chemicals of the names I am about to disclose use them in a rotation becuase mites reproduce so fast that they will build up a resistance to any one chemical if it is used to many times in a row. My alltime favorite is a product called Avid it is a translaminare compound that is not systemic persay but sprayed on the top of the leaf it will get its way to the underside where the nasty beasts reside. The other two chemicals if you have access to them are Hexagon a miticide/Ovicide (kills the eggs too), and floramite. All of these chemical are only available to me via my DPR licence and I don't Know if you can get them. If you can take full precautions as the lable states. Another aproach that if very safe, it is to use a superior oil (Ultrafine) this is a parafin wax that must be sprayed dirrectly on the mites themselves. They can not build a immunity to this product because it uses a smothering action that stops them from resporating. Powdery mildew has been the bane of my pumpkin plants since June. It's all my fault, I know, because I planted them in a spot that was far more shady than I should have ever put them in. Plus the cool, wet weather only made things worse. Oh well... there's always next year. I always wind up with PM in late August-September on my squash and cucumbers, but to be honest, by this time most years, I'm quite ready to be done with them anyways (you can only eat zucchini so many nights in a row, and the freezer fills up quick). I usually don't treat, I'm too lazy and too cheap. Although, if the PM is half as bad next year as it was this year, I have been looking into ways of dealing with it. I have been reading a lot of stories about milk being used pretty successfully. Though, whether or not it is true or simply stories, I don't know. You can give it try I suppose, I think the ratio was 1 part milk to 3 parts water, but you can do a quick google search of milk and powdery mildew to find out for sure. I also read that powdery mildew is host-specific. Supposedly, there are countless strains, and all of them prey on certain plants. So, IF THAT IS TRUE it would mean that it will not spread amongst your different garden plants. So far, that seems to be holding out in my garden where my cucumbers, which are almost entirely white, run amongst tomatoes, basil, peppers, corn, onions, carrots, and the PM seems to be pretty happy sticking only to the cukes. Of course, I think after this year I'm going to have to wait a while before I plant cucurbits again.

What HAVEN'T they been up to? LOL. Xena likes to steal. About three times a day I have to find and return the christmas-tree shaped plant pick that she steals from a mini-rose on the kitchen table. I tried taking it out and putting it away, but in a fit of pique she started to eat the blooms! Back the pick went, back to stealing went Xena, and no more flowers became mutilated. So far this system is working for us. Jasmine is being quite the sucky baby. If my posture even suggests the existance of a lap, she is on it. I leaned against a low box the other day while taking a phone call and she scrambled right up like I was sitting in an armchair or something. Then she proceeded to look perturbed because there really wasn't enough lap there to lay across and she was clutching with all her worth and STILL sliding down my legs. She has perfected the art of "log rolling" - as I turn over at night, she skillfully balances and walks as I turn, then settles onto whatever side ends up at the top when I am done. I suppose I wouldn't mind all the warm snuggly attention. But she drools. Ew! LOL Ruby? What can I say about Ruby. Today I wore make-up because we were going to a local pizza joint to celebrate DD's birthday with family. I had a few moments before it was time to leave so I snuck in a few moments of reading. She trampled over to me across the back of the couch, placed her paw on my head to steady it, and proceeded to sniff all over my face. First she inspected the eye shadow. Then she sniffed each individual eye lash, running her flat nose along the length of each one. She checked out the blush on both cheeks. But the best snurffle was reserved for last! My lipstick. Burts Bees, and it has a bit of mint in it. She sniffed and snotted and sniffed some more. Then she delicately gagged in my face (she does not like the smell of mint at all LOL). No wonder I don't "make myself up" very often!
