Picture Update 6/8/13

Okay, It's been a little while since I've posted a picture update. I think the guys were still inside the last time I posted. Here's a recent pic of everyone under a shade tree. They were looking a little rough after 8 hours of sun, so I gave them a little time in the shade. The super hots were started on January 26th and the annums were started on Feb. 9.

Here's another view. I had to use my cell phone to take the pic. GW keeps saying file size exceeded image over 5000k. I've never had that issue before.

Tim Great looking peppers, time to make us a list of each variety of what you got out there. What is the little runt in the second pic in the front? A late start?

Thanks Val, Debra, Mantis, Jean, Marg, Ellie! Flying Carpet - I was surprised to see that much color on it, I only remember it so bleached out from previous years, and always with one petal sticking out. Last year I decided to eliminate it but at the last minute couple of fans got spared and transplanted to another location. It is a much cooler summer than usual, so it has color now, plus some of the flowers open all the way! Timeless Majesty - it started with a stronger edge and several flowers hung up, now the edge is smaller and flowers open well. Had 3 great blooms on it today. Stranger (aka SIASL) on the other hand.. get tangled almost all the time. Well, it is its first year in the garden only, but still. I am a little sad. Mark... I grew the Dragon's Claw last year. It's a really nice pod with good heat. I would compare it to a jalapeno level of heat. My wife really liked them last year, that's why I'm growing them again. I would suggest you give them a shot. I'm still trying to figure out which pods tsheets is talking about. The only one I was suspicious of was the red fatali. It doesn't look as elongated as I think it should, but I've never grown it before. I also got it from a different source. Almost all of my seeds came from members here, and align with pictures I've looked up on various sites. Just not sure why he'd say "Though, many don't really look like the varieties you named." Hopefully he'll jump back on and let me know. I don't want to inaccurately label a pod and save seeds under false pretenses. Tim

My Christmas box from Annette arrived today! She snuck my box into the mail on the 8th & I'm so delighted with everything! It was just stuffed with goodies, including the most elegant homemade card I've ever seen (just beautiful & so polished!), a delicious decandent chocolate scented candle, loads of yummy candy, seeds of all sorts of interesting new-to-me plants like yellow buddleia, moonflowers and exotic datura, a hoot of an Inspirational packet that included a booklet of Christmas prayers & hymms as well as several useful office items that remind one to "Reduce, reuse, recyle", several more presents that I'll open on Christmas and a beautiful rhizome of 'Designer Gown' TB Iris!! I'm sure it will dig right into its new pot, Annette ~ I divided an iris clump at Christmas a couple years ago and the rhizomes I potted back up bloomed beautifully the next Spring, although a bit late. THANK YOU VERY MUCH & MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Can I use 3 - 13"w x 26" high pendants for an 8'6" island?

As The Cook's Kitchen points out, with the bottom of the pendant 30-34" above the island top, the TOP of a 26" tall pendant will be just a few inches from the 8'6" high ceiling. They will look like three semi-flush ceiling fixtures, and not like pendants. Height of ceiling 102" Height of island 36" Space above island 30-34" Height of pendants 26" Maximum available above pendants 102"- (36+30+26) = 10" Minimum available above pendants 102" - (36+34+26) = 4"

I meant to ask you guys a question. How long does transplant shock last? I replanted the 7 pot Jonah in the front. It's the one in the big (orange/red) pot. I put it in that pot last Saturday. I left it in the shade for a couple of days. I set it out around Tuesday, and when I came home it looked like it was dead. It drooped really bad. I put it back in the shade till today, but after only 30 or 45 minutes in the sun, it started drooping really bad again. How long do I need to keep it in the shade. I would have thought a week would have been more than enough. Thanks.

Transplant shock could last from a couple days to several weeks, depending on weather, exposure, soil, et cetera. I'd keep the wilty ones in dappled sun, if you have any. I notice that some plants just don't do as well as others...

That said, your plants are doing great!
