Dead Trumpet Creeper?

I have a beautiful trumpet vine that has well established itself over the past few years on an arbor and my fence. I noticed this spring that the remnants of last yearÂs branches are bleached white and I donÂt see any new growth. IÂm afraid it might be dead. How can I tell? Is there anything I can do to salvage this plant? What could have caused this?

Here, like most herbaceous perrenials, trumpet creeper dies back to the ground every winter. I am in Missouri and it is too early to know what will or will not resprout.
Trumpet creeper usually is very hardy and aggressive.
wait a while and see if it wont come back.

Here in PA (Zone 5 and 6) Trumpet Creepers often die back to the ground during the first few winters. Eventually they get large or strong enough to produce wood that survives above ground, and they seem to grow as woody vines thereafter. The ones I have grown didn't flower much intil they were old or large enough (not sure if its age or size that makes the difference) to survive above ground. This takes 3 or 4 years around here, in my experience.

I know, we're a little loco. :-D But we've read how successful people have been using PVC with hops. We have hops and I've literally seen it grow over a foot in a day! :-D All we can do is try it and see where and how it fails (if it does) and improve it. :-) It's a challenge! :-D We put a pool up in the backyard last year and neighbors onto one side just stare at us all summer. On the really fun days they invite their friends over to stare, too (yes, I'm serious). So, up with the trumpets on that property line! :-D And when I say we put the pool up, I literally mean we did it. From hand digging the 26 foot hole with shovels to leveling with a 2x4 to unrolling the aluminum...all my husband and I. And they were staring at us every step of the way. (Southerners: I know you think above grounds are tacky, but this whole area is on an artesian well and the ground shifts all winter. The cold alone is bad for ingrounds, the shifting of soil on top of that makes it an impossibility. :-D ) Oh my, I'm rambling. Sorry. :-)

Is there a chart or something that says the nectar production of each plant? Been wondering about this with the plants I have. I mean does it go by size of the flower tube? Trumpet Creepers are pretty thick and so are foxgloves.

Sand man, I've only seen them grown and flowered successfully in very large pots, I mean huge! It will eventually escape from the bottom holes of a pot via runners. They really are beautiful vines, but a lot of trouble. Do a search on here for trumpet vine and see what comes up. Then make your decision. As much as I love the flowers of these vines I will never again plant one. Unless the seller is willing to give a written guarantee that they will pay for eventual removal of the plant. (how's that for dramatic!LOL)

I agree with the previous post. I have Tangerine Beauty climbing my chimney. It bloomed the first year I had it but only produced a few flowers it also grew slowly. This is it's 3rd year and I had loads more blooms and it's growing like crazy. It doesn't "stick" as easily as a Campsis radicans (good thing) so I have the cable from an old aerial antennae against the chimney that it's climbing.
