Very High to Extreme Fire Danger Fri. 12/31/10

Okiedawn OK Zone 7

If you haven't visited the NWS's Enhanced Webpage from the Norman weather office, I urge you to do so and to check out the Fire Danger information.

The fire danger in our region of the country will be from very high to extreme, and the risk will be greatest the further west or south you are, or the more intense the drought in your area. Often, the fire risk associated with approaching cold fronts is highest just before the front passes through an area or as it is passing through the area. This is because that's often when the wind is either at its highest or the wind direction is in the process of changing.

I expect parts of western North Central Texas just across the border from SW OK will have a Red Flag Fire Warning tomorrow unless something in the forecast changes. If the forecast worsens, we might see criticial fire weather conditions in Oklahoma too.

Y'all be careful and stay safe. Winter wildfires driven by wind can be amazingly destructive because of all the dry and dormant winter vegetation.
