Jalepeno dying after transplant

I'm gardening in containers with regular old potting mix from Home Depot. About a month ago, I bought a jalepano plant and transplated it into a container. Right after planting, it just wilted and died. I have several other pepper plants that did just fine planted the same way.

About a week ago, I went to get a replacement and got a 6 pack this time so I had backups. I planted 2 in that same pot this time, the one planted in the same spot as the one that died did the same thing. The other one looks OK as do the rest planted in different pots.

Any idea of what can be causing this? I've never had this happen with any plant before.

I'm concerned because this pot is a converted kiddie pool and I have several other plants on there.
