replanting in the middle of fruiting

Is it a good idea to re-pot when I am just starting to show fruiting? This particular plant is huge and inside a mere 10" pot and is rapidly becoming rootbound. By the end of August the pot will be practically all root the way it is going. I am starting to have to water it every day as it is slurping up water like crazy and the soil is often dry. It won't stop growing. All I used was an all-purpose compost mix and am conservative with the fertilizing additives.

It seems to think it is a triffid and not a pepper plant.

When you press gently on the surface of the soil, you can feel the roots as though it were one big shredded wheat biscuit.

But there's fruit on it and it is becoming more prolific by the day. I was wondering if before we begin summer in earnest, whether it would be a good idea to re-plant this guy into a nice big home to see out the rest of the season.
