Not enough water or sunburn maybe..
Hard to tell from pic but i think she has a bug problem too like scale..
I would also check for rust i see signs of a bug or rust on those leaves..
She is stress and using all her energy for the flowers so check her out..

This one is a year old. It was about 12" when I got it - now over 36". This is the first time it has bloomed for me. It's planted in the ground about 20 miles north of San Antonio, TX.

I don't know which variety it is, but I think it might have a "color-break" virus. It smells like fruity lemons.

The blooms are beautiful and I'm sure the scent is delightful. So far none of mine have flowers, even my mature plumies. I'll have to satisfy myself looking at everyone's pics for now.

I am so envious of you lot out there!! Sorry but I am, you are so lucky to be able to grow these beauties outdoors like this.
As you can see I live in 'Sunny England' and am a 'plumie novice', we are currently experiencing a heatwave over here, for the past week or so we have had temps reaching the upper 30's...we usually have a job to hit the mid 20's in summer, and that only lasts briefly. So we are not really cut out for plumie growing are we?
Now to the point of my post....following a trip to Australia in Feb 2005 I was sent some plumie cuttings, (white and yellow) and I have managed to get one to root and grow after several sets of tiny leaves dropping off all of a sudden it rocketed away this spring.... yessssssss!!! I was surprised how quickly it has grown and it is now looking very healthy. Then, when I saw a cluster of odd looking growths in the growing point I was amazed to realise as they developed more, that they were in fact flower buds, so I am now eagerly awaiting for them to open and I check their progress daily, (I know, its very sad!)
I have posted a picture of its progress so far....hopefully there will be one of it in flower soon.
I don't know how long the buds take to develop fully, I would be interested to hear from you on that one. Anyway here it is!
I put the photo on another thread and had a response which included the advice to repot it soon. As there are no roots coming out of the bottom of the pot yet (I usually take that as a sigh of imminent repotting) and the compost is very open (you all say to use it like that)I am a bit dubious about taking it out of its pot at the moment especially as its about to flower. (I asked this q. on the same thread but no reply yet) so hope you can help me on here, thanks! Greenclaws in Sweltering Staffordshire, England!

Your baby is pushing an inflo how lucky can you get? Can't really say how long it will take for the inflo to mature as I never really kept track on that. I just notice that its so much faster once the heat hits and the amount of sunlight plays a factor as far as I know. Not much help Sorry...

Freak4plumeria- What a nice collection you have. I really like the Samirie- was it from Jim Little? Also your ACW. I have the pink (SCP) but it is a new cutting. My wildfire blanched out in the heat but it still is a great red. Keep the pictures coming. Much enjoyed.

are your plants in the ground? Your plants that are blooming, are they new ones rooted cuttings in cans or 2 -3 plus years. Trying to judge when mine might bloom.

I rarely put my plants in the ground, my soil is too heavy in clay, even if I amend it after couple years the roots hit the unamended soil and if I have a wet winter they get root rot. There is a thread on this forum about South Coast Botanic gardens plumeria garden and how it is dying, or almost dead. The Plumie Garden is located about 12 min from my house so we share the same type of heavy clay soil, so I keep my plants in pots except for a few so they dont end up like the Plumeria garden. Most of the pics I took are from mature rooted plants most over 3yrs old some as old as 26yrs, I have been growing plumies since I was 9yrs old, the Aurora Borealis is a seed grown plumie I grew way back in the day when I was in the single digit years, lol.
Usually, but not always the flowers from a just rooted cutting arent always the best, so I normally wont take pics of them for that reason.

F4P- I wonder if there is something toxic in the soil in that area that causes problems for your plumeria. I planted my first group of plumerias right in the clay because I didn't know better. However, they have survived and done quite well (the plants in the background)

Since then, I have raised planters and removed several feet of the clay to create a better soil for my plants. I haven't lost any in the last 6 years, I currently have about 30 in the ground and the rest in pots. So far, so good.

The Botanic gardens and my house are located right next to the ocean, we are costal. The problem is winter, since we are costal if there is going to be rain we are going to get it and lots of it, thus the ground gets soaked during winter. Our rainy season is not during the summer it is from Dec/Jan on till April. This is the time when the plumies are dormant, so they can not handle the wet feet.
The temps are fine here during winter as we have never had a frost here in my area, temps average in the low 50's to 45 during the coldest monthes during the winter.

I have lived in different areas in So. Cal and had no problems growing the plants in the ground as long as it was not so wet. When So cal had experienced a drought for about 5yrs I had planted some plants in the ground and they thrived, because of the lack of the winter rainy season. The year after the drought broke when the rainy season hit all the plants in the ground except celadine experienced a type of root rot. This is how I figured out it was the rainy season plus our clay soil up here.

I am also coastal in Costa Mesa about 5 miles from the ocean. Because I am in an outflow region from the Irvine valley, I do get a few frosts, but overall I do not think my weather is much different from yours which is why I suspect something in your soil. My plants survived those heavy rains without a loss. Maybe I am just lucky or have some combat harden plants. I even had one planter area where my neighbors backyard drained a river into my planter so it was a small lake which reminds me I need to put some brick along her walk to keep the water from flooding my plumies. Anyway, I can't explain why because we are
only 20 minutes apart if the freeway wasn't a parking lot. A puzzle! Bill

I am right on the water, right above the Trump international. My area is very, very, foggy and wet. If your 5 miles from the actually water your weather is different. There are 3 micro climates in the Palos Verdes area, I live in the area with the most fog, and the coolest of the areas. Even people who live in Torrace which is about 3 miles from the beach has a different micro climate than mine. I have been in Costa mesa on a hot day and when I got home it was a 15 degrees cooler. I also have a condo right on the strand in Long Beach and even though it is right on the beach there dosnt seem to be alot of costal benefit...Long beach is strange in the sense that it tends to have more inland type weather/temps even though it is right on the water.

So I think our weather/temp conditions are different.

thanks for your comments. I am just basically struggling how to figure out how to plant or keep plants in their 5 or 1 gallon cans. I have sandy soil, drains instant. Some have put in the ground, some not sure yet, am going to dig a area to plant them.. You answered my question, they can stay in cans on top of the ground. Few have put the cans partly in the ground, hope they are cooler, been so hot here. Mine are young, so learning from all of you.

F4P- Now that I understand where you are I can see the problem. Also I used to windsurf alot at seal Beach so I know how wierd Long Beach is. I think a natural eddy forms from around Cabrillo and blows into Seal, leaving Long Beach in a windless eye. Also you have to contend with all the fumes from the zillion ships and I recall days that it felt like I had my mouth on a diesel exhaust pipe. Plants have to be bothered by that as I read that exhaust causes early leaf yellow and other problems. And fog is one of the worst for plumies because it is damp and cold. You have plenty of challenges to deal with but you seem to have overcome.

Karen- Sandy soil is one of the best for Plumies, The advantage of putting plants in the ground is that they grow much larger. If you keep plants in pots you need to size up and then root prune every 3-4 years or the plant will taper off in flowers and growth. You also must be very careful to frequently check the drain holes to see that roots do not plug them up. This is plant suicide and it happened to one of my favorite plants last year. I have seven foot high plants in large pots bought a Target which are doing great. If you look at the garden picture above you can see a blue pot in the foreground. All the foreground plants are in large pots and are about 5 years old. They are about 3 and a half foot tall. If planted in the ground they would be 5 foot tall. Hope this helps. Bill

Yes, talked with Rosemary and it seems it's just dust on some of my plants. I love to take pictures, and I have a photo album devoted solely to my plumeria collection! I have a Pacific Pearl that's going to bloom soon so I'll take a picture of that for you as well. (Didn't you get one?)My family thinks I'm nuts (in regards to going from zero to 20 plumerias in the course of 4 months)but I don't care...I have my plants :) I hate living in the city, so the plumerias give me my own little paradise to escape to...Soon I'll have a tropical jungle in my backyard, but at least it will be pretty and smell good :)

yes, am very pleased with Pacific Pearl, bought it from Matthew in June in bloom such a strong scent, Tony recommended it.. Is stil blooming, just put it in the ground, could not seem to ever give it enough water, in a gallon container. Started in Feb, still learning. Can be a daily problem with plumeria. Learning how to handle it so far.

Happy to hear on your plants no scale. Rosemary doesn't use fungacide..why I offered the plant care of plumeria 101, if you chose another way.
