Antipodean jealousy, and hope :-)

It's at times like these, as I read the posts of my Northern hemisphere chile cousins, that I realise how short the year can be for the dedicated gardener.

Only 6 weeks ago I harvested a fairly dismal crop of peppers--due to a horrible summer--and retired my pots and stakes for another winter. I swear, the next idiot that mentions global warming to me may get seriously hurt.

But I'm buoyed by the thought that of this writing--June 4--seed planting time is less than 3 months away in late August--September being the first month of spring in New Zealand.

Actually, when you consider that from first germination to last harvest, chile season is almost 8 months long, it makes the winter downtime easier to bear.

Good luck up north! May your chiles be plump and large!
