buying from ebay

I am interested in buying a Mini siam violet plumeria off of ebay (from Thailand) but have never ordered from ebay and certainly never from Thailand. The seller has a 99.4% (1175) positive rating. Any thoughts from people would be appreciated.

Ebay if safe to buy, but remember the shipping cost from Thailand is bit much because the item has to have Phytosanitary certificate. All other things add up and could be expensive. Also the shipping takes forever to get here.

I agree, I ordered something from Thailand once and it took about a month to get here (May 11-June 12th)! Also, the tracking numbers they give you cannot be tracked by USPS. It was a ring I bought for my sister.

I don't know if this is any help, but: I did order a titanum from PDN, and I ordered five from efgorchids. I will say that the one from PDN was very healthy an strong. It was really dark green, and right now is pretty tall (haven't actually measured it) with the same leaf that it was just starting to grow when I first got it. The ones from efgorchids were smaller. Some of them are now on their second leaf since I got them, while a couple are still on their first. I also got a few extras because a couple of them had more than one tuber in the pot. If you're going to buy in bulk, I'd definitely recommended efgorchids for titanums. Otherwise I'd definitely recommend PDN... although some would say the $50 for it is a bit much when you can get them elsewhere cheaper, after getting it in my hand you can definitely tell it had a good start in life. :) I'm not so sure about discount, but you could always email and ask. No harm in asking.

Sandiaseed.com is one of my favorite seed companies – they offer organically sourced heirloom chile pepper seeds and also heirloom tomato seeds. I LOVE all their green chile seeds, they offer a lot of Hatch seeds so that I can grow the world-famous New Mexico Hatch chile varieties here in Colorado. I know they may not taste exactly the same as the Hatch region-grown chiles, but since they're fresh and homegrown I think they taste AMAZING regardless! If you like spicy like I do, Sandia Seed also carries Hot Hatch chiles as well as the super hot pepper seeds like the Carolina Reaper (in red and yellow!) plus lots of colors of Ghost Peppers and Scorpion peppers. I like to grow the hot peppers to make into hot chile flakes or also to add to salsas. Sandia Seed has a great recipe for Carolina Reaper Salsa, search for it on their site. I also love Baker Creek for all other types of vegetable seeds like squash, pumpkins, lettuces, spinach, and other fall/spring/winter veggies.

I used mexicopper on ebay and the quality of their vessel sinks is FABULOUS! They're double walled, 16 gauge and very well made. The welds are also copper (some aren't and they'll patina differently on the weld line). I recommend them, and I also got a deal...my sinks were nearly $1000 locally and I paid gosh about $200 each I think for them.

The knobs and pulls match perfectly. They are sturdy and heavy and I love them. With shipping and handling the whole order came to a little over $41.00. I ordered 25 of each and wouldn't you know it, I'm one knob short. I hadn't figured in the island doors when doing the planning. I found an exact match at Home Depot for $4.30! Grrrrrr. I have 6 extra pulls if anyone wants them for postage.

The seller anyamanee_p has a very good reputation, but she doesn't ship cuttings to California because of the high rate of confiscation by our Customs officials.

I seem to remember there's a cutting size limit as well, per Customs.

Find out the exact shipping cost before you order - one seller wanted to charge $15 to send an envelope of seeds!

I have never understood why people in the US buy from ebay. I live in the UK and do not have much choice as we dont have a lot of nurseries but in the US you have 100's so why take the chance when you can buy quality plants at cheap prices and have them shipped from your own country with no customs problems.

I dont have any nursuries that sell plumerias here because I live in a zone 7 so most people dont know about plumerias so I get all my plumerias off ebay or online nursuries, but I havent ever bought one out of the country. If I buy them in the US I dont have to worry about customs or problems with the seller, or a long shipping wait (when your waiting for a plumeria to come a week can feel like a month so I cant imagine how long a month feels like!!)
