Smokemaster's Mystery Peppers

Again thanks for the extra seeds in last years exchange. I really do appreciate the extra plants i have now. I have five plants labeled Smoke Mystery, so if you or anyone can help me put a name to my plants that would be great!

Smoke mys1- about 2.5 inches long, and turning green to red, white flowers

Smoke mys2- about 2-3inches long, turning red, white flowers

Smoke mys3- about 6 inches long, green have not changed color yet, white flowers

Smoke mys4- 1 inch long, very bushy plant, lots of peppers, white flowers

Smoke mys5- about 2 inches long, green no color change yet, white flowers

Mystery pepper - 3 inch, almost neon green no color change, white flowers

I will post more info as the peppers change color, and when i try them....Thanks

Did #1 have gold specs on the buds?
If not it could be Japone or Puya chiles.

# 2 -probably Fresno or the one I got labled as red Jalapeno

#3 might be Elephant trunk cayenne

# 4 Chile de arbol or could be one of the thai varieties.

# 5 is too green to tell,could be a 7 pot or one of the many habs. I have

3 inch one might be a large chocolate hab. if it turns brown or a cross.

Save me some seeds from possible chocolate hab and 7 pot looking pods.
I'd like about 20 or more seeds(in case they crossed).
I'll trade etc.E mail me when you have seeds.
I'm sure I probably have something you would like in trade...My collection is quite large.

Your pepper plants look so healthy. Something your doing right.
I put a lot of my hots in 5 gal buckets. So far they are looking good.
I could tell that 5th one is hot, hot, hot.

It's the way it grows all by itself. Warning-it grows as wide as it is tall if not wider. Gets so full of pods it will droop down and in the wind knock the snot out of any plant under it or within reach. I didn't have a camera until I had trimmed my tree. It was an easy 10-12ft. X 12 ft. the second or 3rd year. It liked a true 20 gal. pot and didn't get re potted for years.It liked being root bound. Mites killed it last year. The mother plant was a monster and 15 or so years old when I got my first plant from it's seeds. Mine grew 7ft the first year. Second year it got out of control.Little shop of horrors... In Southern Ca. we have no winter to overwinter a plant in. Pods year round. I just picked some Black Cobra , Tree Hab. and Manzanos today. I got a couple plants last year from the original grower. One puts out red pods instead of orange. Same tree etc. I've got seeds for both colors but haven't tried growing the red one yet to see if it grows true or if mine is just a mutant. Trade seeds? E mail me. My seeds aren't isolated but Beth at Peppermania has grown them out pure and sells them if you want to buy isolated seeds. Couldn't buy from a nicer person.

Hi again Mark Ok.... I guess I will just have to harvest the seeds from all the current pods on these 2 plants, cuz I forgot which flowers I crossed!! I did mark the pots, but not the individual flowers, so I guess when I start my seeds it will be just be another mystery, unless they don't look BP at all! :/ as I had mentioned before, this is my 1st attempt at cross-pollination, so I guess I have to go by trial & error. Next time I will mark the flowers, so that I know for sure what I'm working with when I harvest. Thanks for your advice!

I talked to someone today who tried the pepper, he said it looked and taste like a safi red. But I have never heard of that. He loved the pepper and asked if I had more. Lol I would just like to find out what it is. Does anyone here have any expierence with the safi? My plant looks really strange it has huge leaves on the bottom and little leaves at the top. The bottom leaves are bigger than my hand. Thanks for the info romy but I don't think that these are red habs. I could be wrong but I don't think they are.

soapy, i hope not. i may have to resort to the sniff test. while taking pictures today, i noticed that one of the peppers ripened. weird, it literally happened over night. the picture of the plant i took wouldn't upload for some reason. so here is a partial picture of my pepper harvest. next year, i'll have taken my pictures as i go. anyway, it's the pepper furthest/ on the end.

The bumpy texture of #5 looks like a 7 pot-no stinger to be a Trinidad Scorpion.
All look to be great Producers and healthy plants.
Great work growing them.
Glad I could spread some heat your way.
Lots of heat if thats a 7 pot.Some are hotter than Bhut Jolokia but taste a lot better with a different burn.

7 pots are my favorites-heat and great taste.
You saw my seed list so there are a lot of other possibilities too. LOL

Just an update with some ripe pods

#5 is red and VERY hot, it has a different taste to it, not like a hab. I never had a 7 pot so i can't compare. i really like the flavor of this pod.

#6 the 3 inch pepper, is yellow and taste like a hab. I guess it is a yellow hab.

#6 sure looked like it was going to be the long chocolate habs.
My yellow habs never got long like that.I wonder if it was a cross.
Nice looking pepper though.Sounds like it tasted good too.

#5 looks like they didn't grow very bumpy like the one in the picture looks.Rough textured skin.
Might be a 7 pot strain I grew that I thaught might have crossed or just been a smoother skined strain.
Sounds like it kept the 7 pot heat and taste no matter if it was a cross or not.

Both look like keepers to me.

Nice growout.Good work.

I put all my Broom pepper seeds(stuff I spilled on the floor or wherever) in my mystery pack.
Since I have over 3000 varieties and strains of non bell pepper seeds you can get all kinds of stuff in the seed mix.
I'm sure there are a lot of seeds in there that are also rare or hard to come by that got loose when I was seeding pods or packing up a trade.
