Comments (6)Missouri Plants may not be of much help since he only has a page for Solidago altissima. Many authorities consider S. altissima to be a variety of S. canadensis (var. scabra), one of the differences being that S. altissima has grayish leaves and a uniformly hairy stem (as opposed to the lower half being mostly smooth in typical S. canadensis). The leaves of S. altissima also tend to have only a few shallow teeth or no teeth, unlike the plant in the picture. Another possibility is S. gigantea, which has mostly smooth and somewhat waxy stems below the inflorescence. More pictures of the whole plant, stem, and inflorescence might be useful....See MoreWhat kind of wild grape is this?
Comments (18)Hi all. New in this forum. I've been following this discussion with much interest as it seems to me that wild grape has exploded here in N.E. Wisconsin. To be sure, it's been present forever, but in recent years, I'm just seeing more and more of this stuff, and it's very disturbing as it seems to preferentially be climbing up into my favorite trees...........conifers. It is not at all unusual to see vast amounts of otherwise nice spruce, cedar, and pine utterly grown over with this vine. And it does eventually do the trees in, simply by shading them out. So I ask, has anybody else noticed what seems like an increase in the presence of wild grape in your area woodlands....especially along roadsides? +oM...See MoreWhat kind of wild pine is this?

I've got larch and pine at my farm that did that too-all following one horrendous wind event. They bent but they never straightened back up. +oM...See Moreilene_in_neok
