Are some of my plants burned?

In your experiences, how long has it taken for plants to recover on their own from plant burn. They get plenty of water. They have to because of the hot Texas dry heat. I'm not entirely sure if some of my plants are burned. These are plants that I bought, not from seed, but mostly plants annual plants that I saved from last year in a green house. The plants leaves are a little wilted on just the top 1/2 or 1/3 and on some plants where the stems meet with each other are a dark black or brown color. What can I do to recover these plants and have them healthy again? I haven't put any fertilizer on them in quite a while now, at least 2-3 weeks.

That's normal. Don't worry.

I don't know. How long have these been planted in the ground?

Damping off disease - that's new to me. I'm reading that it can be caused by heat and moisture, which is exactly what they've had, as it was 90+ degrees, rained hard, and the straw held in the moisture. I think all my hot peppers except one have that yellowing on the stem. These peppers germinated in March along with the tomatoes, but they're so small. I think i kept them in the seed starter mix too long. First time getting anything to grow from seed. So much to learn. I'll have to post some pictures of my healthier plants. They don't all look that bad. :)

Way above my knowledge level but I remember Bill (squeeze) out in BC talking about phytotoxicity in compost. I googled it and there are tons of hits. Whether that has any bearing on your situation I have no idea. It was mentioned on the Master Composters course as a possible issue of immature compost as well. One of a few reasons I like to mature/cure my compost beyond what others may. Lloyd

That will depend on several things such as the amount of hay put down, the moisture in that hay, proximity to the plants, but most likely a couple of inches of hay will not be enough to generate the heat that could burns your plants.

Nothing is wrong with my bandwidth after checking with my ISPs test web page. However, I'm having a hard time uploading pictures. You can see the dark spots in this one though where the branches meet.

Hmm, I wasn't sure because the top leafs look wilted while the lower ones look fine, so that's why I asked, and I am glad to know everything is fine. What about this?

I'm not an expert on leaf damage but I can tell you that isn't was sunburnt leaves look like. It looks more like fertilizer burn or weed killer drift (some of your leaves in the first pictures have some nasty leaf curl), also it's always a good idea to check on and around the plant for pests such as aphids or mites if your leaves start looking bad.

Pics #1 and #3 are from too much nitrogen

Pic #2 very similar to TSWV, I would check with County/parish agent to be sure
