My cucumber plant is turning pale and blossome dropping off

I'm a newbie in gardening. i started growing the cucumber this april and they were growing well.
3 weeks ago, the plants start to have male flowers buds and i have found some female flower bud since last week.
however, the many of the male flower buds drop off before it opened. And i found my plants are getting pale.
what's wrong with my plants? am i watering too much or less or the sun is too strong? Please help!

That plant is showing signs of chlorosis, or yellowing of the leaves, and that has numerous causes ranging from lack of nutrients to the pH of the growing medium.
The pot that is growing in may be too small, the growing medium may lack the nutrients the plant needs, or a combination of those.

cukes are full blistering sun plants ...

i think you are doing brilliant with it indoors ... getting it as far as you did ..

but i am not sure ... no matter what the issue is.. that you will get much further ...

full sun plants.. abort flowers in lack of full sun .. and unless you are hand pollinating them.. there is probably no pollinator working them.. unless you have a hive of bees indoors also ...

solving the chlorosis.. might not get you produce ....

i think i see salt stains on the media ... and that is the beginning of media issues ... watering issues.. and drainage issues ... along with the lack of sun ...

there have to be more favorable plants to grow indoors ... perhaps many of the herbs .. but high production plants are going to be a problem ... there has to be other forums.. where you could learn about pots.. media.. and growing things indoors ... for your future attempts ...

Blossoms that aren't pollinated normally drip off. Thrips will 'snip' off blossoms but you don't include your zone (you really need to do that) so I have no way of knowing if thrips are an issue where you live. I only see 1 blossom on the ground and definitely looks dead and wasn't pollinated so what you are seeing could easily be normal. Dave

Squash/zucchini plants produce male & female flowers. The females need the male's pollen to produce fruit. The male provides the pollen, then the flower drops off. When they first start flowering, usually all of the flowers are males. It's kind of the plant's way of making sure there is pollen available, versus having females with no pollen available. So, it may seem that ALL you flowers are dropping, but its actually just males. Female flowers are soon to follow, which then, hopefully, you'll have some bees ready to pollinate, or, as mentioned, you'll have to do it manually. A small, soft paintbrush works great. The main Growing tomatoes forum has a good FAQ entry on blossom drop; you might start there. My personal thought is that you can try flicking or vibrating blossoms, or shaking the plant a bit every couple of days; the humidity may be causing the pollen to clump together so it doesn't fall down to pollinate the flowers. Blossom drop is one of those problems with many causes, so it takes a bit of detective work to figure it out. --Alison

I still don't see the root flare where the trunk meets the ground. Even if there are fine roots around the surface, proper planting is to leave the top of the root flare exposed or just above soil level. The flare is the point where trunk swells and becomes roots. I know I have mentioned this a few times, and without me actually looking at the trunk and inspecting the soil surface, I cannot be sure it was planted too deeply, but it is a concern. Another concern may be how much amending was done at planting time. Heavily amending a planting hole, especially when the soil around the planting hole is clay, can create a 'ceramic pot' which can lead to poor drainage and possible rot.

hi Ken,
yes, i will try hand pollination. but since the female flowers are not open. so i cant do it at this moment.
anyway, it's so lovely to see the little cucumber is getting big. it's now about 1.5 cm in length :)
