Bill and Jack, Thanks for that info. I'm in the San Gabriel Valley (Rosemead). Heat probably does radiate off that wall. Those plants along the wall get 9-10 hrs. of sun a day. I'll have to move the younger plants where they get some afternoon shade. I've been racking my brains out as to how I want to fix that area so I can display my plants there. It's a planter that runs the width of my backyard. I've been thinking about covering that wall with a bamboo screen that I can get at Home Depot and covering the dirt with some type of wood decking. I just need to get motivated and stop being so lazy. I'll will give my plants more potassium. I do notice how some of you knowledgeable growers have very lush plants with plenty of leaves. Growing these plants is sure a science!. Jack, when you refer to Mag, are you referring to Magnesium? Can this combination of potassium and mag be bought in one fertilizer or are they separate chemicals? I've rambled on long enough. Thanks again, Rick

looks like fertilizer burn to me, they don't need any fertilizer until they have developed their first and second set of true leaves. they are no where near that stage yet.. and if you think you're over watering then chances are, you probably are ;)

Hello I actually work for a waterproof deck coating manufacturer and I hope I can help you out.. typically contractors will offer a 3-5 year warranty. With that said, if the contractor gives you a maintenance schedule, your deck should have lasted 15 years. Epoxy is the INCORRECT system for this application, can you verify if this was actually an epoxy? maybe post some pics and I could help you out!- Tony

Only thing you can do is dig out as much of the rot as possible, apply fungicide, powdered seems to last longer on the root, allow to dry and replant. If the plant has been in that area for a number of years this happens naturally especially in the older cultivars. Back in October 2011 one of the members on here posted pictures of the root from a plant that had been in the ground for years perhaps even 100 that after this stuff was rinsed out it was hollow but still alive. I asked last year if the divisions that were made lived but they did not. If you are only planting for your own enjoyment and not commercial usage I would not attempt to divide but just plant back. One of those ???? things. If older 50+ in the same spot are still alive and appear to be thriving with what appears to be rot on the inside does the stuff on the inside provide nourishment to the plant. I think that some how it does because if it was just rot the plant would die.
