Oh my God, this is beautiful!!! Thank you sooo much for posting those pictures. I just love that plant, and I still regret not buying it when I had a chance to. When did it start blooming and how big is your plant now? I wish it was big enough to make cuttings...

LOL Iso I knew you would love seeing these pictures!
This plant has bloomed in the last few months from 2 inflos on 1 branch, but the inflos are not packed solid with buds, so the blooms are sparse for now; I'm hoping more buds will come out of these 2 inflos as the weather gets warmer.
My plant is about 2.5 feet tall, with 2 big branches (like the shape of a slingshot). Where the 2 inflos are, there is a small new tip growing, but not sure how fast tips grow. Sorry it doesn't have enough branches yet to take cuttings :-(

Thank you! Me too, I normally am more attracted to the deeper brighter colors (like the Kaneohe Sunburst or Royal Hawaiian), but this one is really special. It's the red veins that makes it interesting!

Thats a beautiful bloom! I really love the red and yellow. Its not a very common mix.

Jennifer: Yes the name is just Sparkle (it's from Jungle Jacks). I agree, it would make a lovely painting! I save all my plumeria pictures because I do paint watercolors, and these flowers are perfect for watercolor paintings!

I am going to order this plumeria this week. I all ready contacted Jungle Jacks. John is in Thailand right now and his wife told me that she spoke to him a few days ago, and this was one of the plumeria he was bringing back with him.

She also told me that he is bringing back more of the "collector's plumerias", must be the more rare, and expensive varieties. I saw pics of his multi grafted plumerias from Thailand. I wish he would sell those here. I can only imagine how much they would cost!

I wanted to ask you, does this plumeria require high heat to produce the colors you had on yours? What aout its growth habit. Is it leggy or compact?

If I cannot find out from you, then I can just ask them on Tuesday when they call.

Glad you are getting Sparkle, it is a beautiful flower! I've noticed it does get the deeper color with the veins when it gets more heat and sun. I haven't owned it long enough to tell the growth habit, except that the branches are pretty husky. Since it is a JJ variety, I have to believe that it will not grow too tall, because it seems like JJ's philosophy is to develop varieties that are shorter so that the flowers can be seen and enjoyed. You may want to order their catalog also just for the pictures. I look at it over and over so I can dream about my next acquisitions :-)

Thanks for the info. My buying rampage is now OVER!! I honestly didn't spend a lot. I got very luck. I have met some very kind and generous people on this forum. The woman who sold me my Penang Peach last fall hooked me up wit hsome harder to find plumeria cuttings at very reasonable prices.

Believe it or not, this will be only the 2nd time I ordered this year from an actual nursery. I do plan on ordering there catalog.

Trust me, I know what your saying! I have loved plumeria ever since I saw them for the first time as a kid at our local fair. They were selling cuttings of noid pink, yellow and white.

I have to say, I neevr knew there were so many varieties until I joined this forum and the aloha forum.

It would be much easier if I lived somewhere warm though. I have been planning out just how I am going to store them once they truly are tree sized.

Tony: I can only describe the scent as lightly sweet (not a classic frangipani scent like the Celadine, but not very fruity sweet like California Sunset). You're right, once you're hooked, there is no end to the madness!!

Andrew: I live in a warmer climate, and I still have to figure out what to do to protect my plumies during the winter. This last winter (my first winter with plumies) they were OK, and even blooming, because I could fit most of them under my patio cover, which I had turned into a greenhouse temporarily by enclosing it with large sheets of heavy duty plastic. But this coming winter, not sure yet what to do. I am planting some of them into the ground, but most will stay in pots, and I have so many more now just from my rampage since January, gifts from friends, and from my Hawaii trip... and then THIS too :-) We are all plumie nuts aren't we? (Sorry, no matter what I do to rotate this picture, it won't do it once it is in the post).

Hey, Sunseeker, that could be my seedling patch! I'm down to 30 seedlings, though I may winnow out a couple more laggers. I'm also up to about two dozen plants, if my few cuttings all root. Gonna try to stick to a strict limit of 50 plants total, but then I also said I would only purchase two plants this year and I'm well past that already. But only by four!!

If you live in zone 10 I think your Plumies should be fine outside in the winter...well, the seedlings might need some protection but certainly the more mature rooted plants should be fine.

I am in the San Fernando Valley and my Plumies stay out all winter no matter the temps or rain. My back yard gets A LOT of sun and has a lot of cement which I think helps...but even when I lived in areas with less sun, they survived fine.

I think I did have a limit when I first started last summer...
Tony: I am near the coast, in southern Calif. We don't normally get freezing temperature here for most of the winter, however we did have a number of nights where the temp dropped to below 32 (I think it was Jan or Feb), and a few cold rain storms too. I don't know how they would have fared. Of course, being new to growing plumerias, I was very afraid of losing my beloved plants!
The best thing I got from having the greenhouse was that some of my plants continued to flower thru the winter. The most amazing one was Kaneohe Sunburst, which had flowered since last July and finally quit blooming at the end of Feb. I think this year I will keep the blooming ones protected so i can enjoy the flowers longer, and the seedlings, and the rest may stay outside but I'll group them together so it would be easier to throw frost cloth on them in case it is needed.
