Oklahoma Drought Monitor Map 8/16/2011

This week's edition of the Drought Monitor map is linked below. Improvement occurred in every applicable category, except for the D-4 category, where the amount of land in this category went up by a couple of percentage points.

Realistically speaking, a lot of us who were in D-4 last week are still in D-4 this week, even though some rainfall brought some of us some relief. The area showing the greatest improvement this week is in northeastern OK where some areas received significant rainfall.

In all areas of the state, fire danger still ranges from moderate to high or even very high/severe at any given time, depending on wind speed, temperatures and RH values.

Any improvement at all is a good sign. Let's hope there's increasing signs of improvement next week too.
