Thanks tornado. And Arktrees, no, I am not paying shipping again. They had suggested that I could buy two more trees to fill this second box but then wanted half of the hefty shipping fee. To which I told them, I'll just take the two trees you are replacing then. My thinking was the same as yours, I'm not going to cover their cost for having sent me bad trees to begin with. As of right now I'm satisfied that they are sending replacement trees. I'll post pictures of what they look like. Thanks for your continued thoughts.

Hi Morgan, Welcome to the forum! I'm a newbie too, but I'm going to venture a guess (based on your pic) that your violets are overwatered. I don't know if this would affect the flower buds, but it looks like you've got the plant in a self-watering pot with a standard commercial AV mix. Everyone on this site (I haven't seen it contradicted yet) will tell you that's *way* too heavy for a self-watering pot. Try a 1/3-1/3-1/3 mix of 1/3 peat/coir/or AVmix - 1/3perlite - 1/3 vermiculite. Even this may be too heavy for the self-watering pots, in which case add more perlite. AV roots (I've been told) like as much air as anything else, and *hate* being waterlogged. Also, when you are repotting your little guy, make sure to get the old dirt off its roots. Run them under a luke warm tap to make sure you get all the old heavy soil mix off. And make sure the mix is damp (not soaking) before you pot in it, peat especially doesn't like to absorb water if it's bone dry. So moisten the mix, plant in it, and then add water and fertilizer to the resevoir pot as well. AVs like to be fed constantly and the 1/3-1/3-1/3 mix is actually dirtless, so there is no nutrition for it there. You can use a commercial AV food. Most of them include an appropriate solution for watering every time. Otherwise, I think 1/2 strength or 1/4 strength is what is recomended. Just use that solution in your base pot. As for the light, someone else will have to weigh in on that, but if the AV is forming buds, it sounds to me like the light is okay. So now someone will correct any errors I've made, but *definitely* get it into a lighter soil mix right away. livelovelaugh2010 - That "jiffy" mix you used to start your plants is terrible soil. I have used it in the past with very little success. The soil that you need should be dark rich and soft. Jiffy seed starting mix is way to light and has no nutrients in it. Also it looks like they need water... a lot more water. Personally when im growing my seedlings i keep them soaked. I actually have holes in the bottom of every plastic cup and fill my trays with water. I don't water from above, but just let them "suck" up the water from the tray. Other than the lack of water and nutrients the color of the plants looks good. The dark green of the topside leaves shows they like the grow lights (Maybe a bit to close to the plants. A few inches away is fine.) The purple on the bottom of the leaves is from the stress the plants are under, that will go away when that plants starts growing again. TO SUM IT UP: Crispy leaves = too much light/heat & not enough water Purple under leaves = stress or temp not right Small plants = No nutrients, bad soil conditions Dont give up. A few small changes will make all the difference in the world.
