Ok for 2013 I got decent trees. They were big, and some do not like that. I would have preferred smaller trees myself, but I can't complain as they were in such good shape. I ordered trees from Bay Laurel in CA and Grandpa's in MI Excellent trees all of them! 4 from Bay Laurel, and 2 from Grandpa's. If you live in the East you may want to use Grandpa's. Bay Laurel has to send out by March 7th or so. But even here in MI the ground was workable. They all went back into dormancy when planted, and are now coming out. The trees from Grandpa's just came last week and are fine. I have wet clay here, and the trees from Bay laurel are on citation which grows well in wet clay! From Grandpa's the peach was on Lovell, a decent rootstock, and the cherry on Gisela, but most are not! They vary by cultivar. I was looking for Gisela. I ordered raspberries from a few places. The best was Indiana Berry, and they were cheap too! $3.25 a plant. I ordered Prelude, Encore, and Anne. Bare root. All had exceptional roots and one cane over pencil size. All are still dormant, but a bud formed on one cain the last couple of days. We had a harsh cold spring, so that didn't help in adjustment. I for sure will look for cultivars there first. I also ordered a currant and it was decent looking, bare root dormant. Stark brothers also gave me decent raspberry plants bare root too. But tell them a date, they tend to send too early!! I had to keep a blueberry bush inside, and then hardened it off, and planted just in time for a freeze, so it is struggling. Raspberries are all still dormant so no problems with the freeze.

Hi Tony, Great to hear that on Kimo great, wasn't sure, glad I chose a good one, has two tips. I went there hoping for kauka wilder and nebels rainbow. they wern't there. Heard you mention kimo so bought it. Yes do know where mainly seconds is, will check them out monday, thanks . like that store! My computer is going nuts, my fan is roaring like i have never heard and the typing is not working..so shutting down. chat later. oooooh had two large 5 ft plants given to me. first time for me.......I can say>>>>I have two inflos coming! yippee. one is yellow, hope for atzec gold..other is a white pink blend think with deep raspberry on back..Trying to remember. Neighbors gave them to me..does not know name..so excited..yea on yours..will get back tomorrow. Any car buffs. tomorrow April 29th, is my husband's classic car show at the Autry Museum accross from the zoo.. Will be about 250 classics, plus Jay leno comes!! our 56 Buick will be in there. public free, 10 to 2 pm.. I am doing the raffle, door prize tables. going to bed. Karen B.

We have been visiting the big island for decades and as a "give back" we would like to work with a nursery or garden group to plant trees on some of our favorite beaches - Kona to Kohala. Palm trees come to mind since they are iconic, but any sort of shade tree that is easy to grow and non invasive would be fine. We assume we would have to work with state parks or the county to get permits of some sort, and I have emailed state parks without response. Any ideas or sources of plant material we can purchase for this would be very welcome, as would advice on a way to get permits! We will be on the island several weeks next January and would like to get this project ready to implement so we can plant and water while we are there. if you think this is un doable please say so so I don't waste any more time on it.

The best part is his prices are very fair and he's a very patient man. Some folks here like Upland Nursery... but I did not have a good experience with them. To me their high prices (I paid $99 for a 2 gal plant vs JJ's 5 Gal for half the price) lack of service and the fact that their plants are grafted... means I won't be buying from them in the future. Also Encinitas and Irvine Home Depot carry JJ's plumerias as well. But since I'm so close to JJ's I just go straight there to get the varieties that I cannot find at HD. Prices are comparable anyway so might as well. My last trip to JJ's I found a NOID which turned out to be Tiger from Thailand. And she's a beauty! So this time I'm going to hunt for a Red flower plant! :) Good luck and have fun if you do go!
