This one's a keeper. But she's not available at your local nursery!

The pod parent is 'Traci' and the pollen parent is 'Dave' LOL!

hey...congrats dave in nova....
i have a couple of these growing myself...i do have to bring them in for winter though..
if i may make some suggestions.....
they don't like alot of watering..they in fact leak from time to time...i tried to keep mine growing in the shade...little fertilizer..
and you must keep an eye on these after several years..they can get out of hand...
your friends and family will be making comments like...where you get that one from..etc....don't tell them or the next thing you know everyone will be wanting one..you might even have strangers stop and make comments along the lines of..."well isn't this one a real cutie"...i hope you're as proud of your little flower as i am of my three.. happy growing and good luck with your new hybrid "" Katie Rose ""

alameda: I have souv.de un ami. Big vase shaped plant that grows vigorously and blooms quite literally continuously. Sometimes you have tons of blooms, sometimes you have some blooms, but always blooms. It is healthy - can do without spraying and still look good. In my garden its practically evergreen - looks good right this minute. It has the tea tendency to respond to pruning by putting the new growth at a right angle, but not nearly so much as does Clemantina and some others. This is a terrific rose - you did well. rainbow 2007 - Hybrid Musks will be quite giddy with happiness in full sun. All of mine are in full sun and they stay much cleaner than they did in partial shade as well as they grow and bloom with great enthusiasum. We just added three more...DH will love the fact that RU has new ones to offer.

I've always received potted plants from Rogue Valley Roses. Are the free roses bare root or did you perhaps mean own root? No pruning and not much top growth would hold true for most roses, because they are establishing their root systems. Your plant looks great and should do well for you.

There's some very useful information in this basic guide to the mechanics of rose breeding. More articles found here also. There is debate about the likelihood of infecting a clean rose with virus by placing pollen from a virused plant onto a clean one. Indications are that it is possible, yes, but it probably happens very infrequently. Is it possible to create virused seedlings from a virused plant? Probably, but its got to be a rare thing. The sentiment among many hybridizers is: if you have a plant you KNOW is virused, use it as a seed parent, NOT as a pollen parent, just to eliminate the possibility of infecting a clean seed parent. From this URL, comes this quote: "In seedling transmission tests, 651 seedlings produced from seed collected from virus-infected plants were ELISA tested for viruses; no virus was detected. Pollen from infected plants was applied for 3 years to 173 uninfected plants; for 2 subsequent years all ELISA tests were negative for viruses." You've seen many of my hybrids before, I'm sure, so no need to post things you've already seen. However, in 2021 I found this rose growing in a pot of weeds and resurrected it. I had assumed it was destroyed in the Big Freeze of 2015, but there must have been some life in the roots. Its a cross of 'Golden Angel' X 'Out of Yesteryear'. Its a thorny bugger, a trait that persists for generations in R. bracteata hybrids.

That’s a great looking space you created, looks like you both did your homework and put in the work. Tilling an entire bed and adding compost is much superior to only putting amendments into the planting hole. I think you’ve done everything right, but if your soil is alkaline I’d also spread some sulfur over the whole bed. I planted beds with all mixed colors, and I think similar colors should not be right next to each other (In other words, Queen Liz, Touch of Class and Chicago Peace should not be all in a row. `It’d be a big grouping of non-matched pinks, which you’d want to avoid). Just let the mixed colors be really mixed. Since your garden is out front, I’d plant Fragrant Cloud and/or Double Delight at the very front, since they are super scented and will make you many friends.

OOoh my is she a keeper..such a little beauty for sure. Look at all that blond hair. The "Pod" and "Pollen" parents did good. Do show her progress, want to see pictures. so sweet, love that name.. Katie Rose!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, Dave, She's so precious!!!!! We just had our 4th granddaughter on the 8th. She's been with us a week already! lol There is nothing on earth more special than a baby!!!!! Congrats!!!!!

Dave- she is so cute. I have an extra copy of "Recipes from Parenting" by Sandy MacDaniel (www.parentingsos.com/) which is my favorite parenting book for young kids. I will send it to you. I gave away my copy of "don't feed the dragon" which is a discipline program for school aged kids. I gave it to my little baby girl who is having her "70s/80s" birthday bash to celebrate her 40th. Where did the time go? Take a lot of pictures because time flies. Bill
