Speaking of costly heat,I found my electric bill for this last month and it was triple what it was last year as far as usage goes, 33 klwt hours as compared to 11 klwthrs last year,I think even though I will be(possibly) heating more palms I know some ways to cut back on usage so it should be cheaper. I would love to get a foot of growth out of my washys this year,we have a lot shorter growing season up north but yours will be off to a good start,I am hoping for 5-6 new leaves so we'll see,some of that depends on how hot it is this summer. I am planting more palms,etc this year but I will also be growing more seeds,flowering vines,unique flowers and all sorts of cool stuff to accent the palm garden and I will expand some of the existing beds,I am getting a list together and will post a new thread when its coming together,today I bought 3 softball sized elephant ear bulbs,ortrich ferns and planted about 100 castor seeds along with Gunnera tinctoria,Tetrapanax papyriferus,moonflowers,red morning glory,portulaca,poppies,snapdragons and four o'clocks and thats not including a big order from Burgess in April!The yard will be rock'n this year,can't wait.

Very nice,all of the palms I have potted or planted in the past few months are also growing well,with warm air temps and soil temps whats to stop them?

I used to live in Dallas, and when going through there recently I was surprised to see so many palms being planted. Of course what you might get away with in this era of global warming is another matter, but from what I'm hearing that can mean even more erratic weather, perhaps such as the sleet and 33 degrees we had last night here between Austin & San Antonio. Very late in the season! I don't know about the first one, but all the other palms you mentioned were killed in Dallas in the winter of 1983 - even mature sabals & w. filiferas that had been around since the 1950's. The only thing that survived were windmills on the south sides of buildings, and of course needle palms and dwarf palmettos.
