Wow Rob! Thats a good F-N deal! Too bad about the alcohol though. Those are cool looking palms but I couldn't have one without a greenhouse. I only have 8 ft ceilings. Ive heard they can make alright houseplants until they get too big. Am I right or am I thinking of something else?

Josh...I have a big triangle in the greenhouse and they are wonderful plants to grow. I have some small ones too. They are beautiful cause of there blue color. They need full sun to look there best, but work fine in the house for a few months at a time. They do grow fast. I they have another palm with these, I didnt find a name on it and it look interesting. I might go and grab it also. This is to good to pass up.

Is a trinagle palm the same as a cat palm? I have no idea.

andyandy -- yes, trinagle and cat palm are exactly the same, almost just like a coconut, if the dose of alcohol is right.

No a cat palm and a triangle are different. I looked it up and it says a cat palm is Chamaedorea cataractarum, where a triangle is a Dypsis decaryi. THe triangles are a blue palm and have a triangle shape, they grow nicely in pots.

I think what catkim is saying is(I was born in cali so I speak it)If yuzis drunk yuzis might not notice the dif!

What outdoor palms have you had luck with? I'm in Tuscaloosa and have windmills only right now. Also a few great sagos and a musu basjoo.

I dont grow any palms in the ground, I grow them in big pots. I like the tropical looking stuff. I dont care for the windmills, sabals, needles etc..., just not my taste. I am growing mostly the feather leaf type palms, spindles, bottles, triangles, queens, teddy bears, idica and some others. I just drug everything out of the greenhouse yesterday so I dont have an updated picture yet, but here is a picture from last year. I have a spindle that weighs over 300 lbs and a queen thats following along. My goal is to grow as many palms as I can, in pots and see how big they will get. My challenge right now is next years space in the greenhouse. I am running out of room, fast.

Holy Moly! I just searched your older greenhouse pics! We have a small house in Tuscaloosa, Northport actually, but wow, I'd love to have room for a greenhouse to do what you are doing. Incredible.

I love the more tropical looking plants, too, but so few work here. We tend to buy a few cool tropicals every year, but then they die off :-(.

If you ever have an open (green)house, I'd love to know!

finz2left.....I just love Tuscaloosa, lived there for about 4 years. We lived in Northport. The place has grown up since then. I guess I am about 90 miles from you, up north. I let people come by and see the stuff. I grow orchids also, so during the summer, the greenhouse is full of cattleyas and cymbidiums. During the winter, the cymbidiums are in bloom. All the palm trees except the little ones go to the patio during the summer. Your welcome to come by, might be best to wait until June or July, plants will look better. If you want to see flowers, the best time to come is around January.
