Any online or mail order sources for Robusta?

Looking for a small, inexpensive Washingtonia Robusta to replace one of my Filiferas. Ideally 1 gallon size or a little larger, but no smaller.

Jim- I might be open to a Filibusta, but I want guaranteed fast growth like a robusta can provide. My Filiferas just don't seem to perform for me. What kind of source do you know of for Filibusta? I recall you saying you have Filibustas. Do you get very fast growth out of
them? Thanks

I usually order only from van engelen/john scheepers, but this year I'm trying a couple of new ones, touch of nature and high country gardens, for some fall flowering bulbs, that ve/js don't carry. Some of my purchases in the past have been from a local dutch bulb importer at their retail location. They have always had good stock at a very reasonable price, but last fall's purchases performed very poorly, so I'm skipping them this year. Also purchased 100 daffs from cosco this week, a couple of new varieties that I don't have. They are large, firm bulbs, so we shall see how they perform. Have never purchased bulbs from them or sams or any other big box store before, but others have and were completely satisfied. Rb

May I just add that the sample bottle they'll send on request costing ($3 for shipping, I think) is a very generous 8 oz. bottle & provides the user more than enough w/ which to test on their plants (for some time, depending on the number of plants one has). I tried it some time back & have been a devoted user ever since. I had ordered mine thru Charlie's Greenhouse (I too had difficulty w/ Ace, who ordered it & then told me their company will not handle, buy or ship this product).

While I don't shop mail order from them as they are a half hour drive from me I highly recommend Hughes Water Gardens. They supply many nurseries wholesale and do sell directly to the public as well. Sometimes people will exchange for garden plants, it doesn't have to be pond plants. I have purchased many waterlilies from Kat who sells on various ponding forums and eBay. Always huge for great prices below retail. Be careful on eBay there are many who sell waterlilies that aren't truly named. Here is a link that might be useful: Hughes Water Gardens Online

Try aquabid.com there are many people there that ship nice angels and discus as well as many other types of fish. I have fish that were bought from there that cost from five dollars to over two hundred dollars and most have come in great shape. The main trick of buying fish from a mailorder shop or online auction site like aquabid is to avoid fish that can be bought locally because the shipping freight will result in fish that can be very expensive. You do not seem to have that problem because of a lack of stores to buy from. Several of the sellers at aquabid are actually based in Hawaii so you will be buying local fish or at least fish that only have to endure a short trip in shipping.

Mine did not grow fast last year because of the heat,lack of water and probably because the pot heated up and burned the roots.

I would probably sell one .....and I think if you put it in a big pot right off and shade the sun side of the pot
during temps over 80-just shade it-sink it,whatever(-:............it would grow faster than you may want it to!

Good luck and let me know-I only saw seeds for sale on e-bay-strange.

I had her send me a washy hybrid (filabusta) and its fat like a filifera and fast as a robusta. you know I plant most of my palms in the ground, this palm definatly needs to be inground. I dug a huge hole centered the palm and filled the rest of the hole with sand.

Jim, how big is your Washy you're interested in selling? Do you have a picture of it? I may be interested.

Mike- Thanks for the link. Do you still have seedlings from the seeds of that Filifera that you collected? I still have seedlings from those seeds you gave me. They definitely grow slower than Robusta. Was that Filifera in Nevada or New Mexico? I forget where you collected them from.

ryan jims washy is a nice one you should get his palm.
I got those filifera seeds from a pair of huge filiferas in nevada were I-15 right before moapa. I was in that corner were I-15 goes real fast through the corners of utah, arizona and nevada.

Either one,you might want the bigger one(-:

I could ship it bare root,that would save quite a bit!

I don't know what they go for(have not seen them for sale) so make me an offer.
