I should warn you all that compost can kill your potted wax apple. The leaves of my wax apple suddenly became yellow 2 days after putting a thin layer of compost on the surface. I used Ecoscraps no-poop compost: http://ecoscraps.com/shop/product/ecoscraps-compost-mix-8-quarts/ . I'm hoping my tree can survive. These are my observations on how that compost affected my trees. - Sweetheart Lychee was unaffected by compost. - Sunshine Blueberry spread out its canopy more. - Wonderful Pomegranate also got yellow leaves. - Multi-grafted Cherry tree grew more leaves. - Prime Ark Blackberry started darkening its berries. - Fall Gold Raspberry is unaffected. - Goji Berry is unaffected. - Apache Blackberry grew a tad bit taller.

I think the plant may be a little "weak" during the winter months. The air is also drier during this time. Since these tropical plants thrive in warm and moist weather, I'm wondering if it's due to lack of hydration. You might also want to hold back on your fertilizer since during the Winter months, they are kind of dormant and not growing new leaves so they do not need that much fert. If I were you, I would remove the dried up leaves, or almost dried up leaves and if the tips of branches look droopy, snip the ends off to promote new growth. Then watch it closely. I also own a wax jumbo which I bought last year. It's now in the pot and its leaves look ok hough not as green as in the Summer. I would suggest not to let it dry out for too long. As soon as it feels dry on the surface, try to water it again and give it plenty of sun. As to infestation, unless you see leave spots or leaves being munched away, it's hard to know what it is that is bothering it. With the warmer Spring weather around, it should bring some hope to your plant that it will do better. All the best.

I took two air-layered cuttings about 1.5 month ago. One with barely any root development, the other with roots running around 2" -I managed to break some of them with poor handling as well. Planted both in 5-gallon pots using kellogg patio plus and left outside in full sun from day one. They were ravaged by santa ana wind several days after & reduced to just twigs. But I kept on watering it thoroughly every other day until now. They're both showing new growth, though the cutting with better developed roots growing much faster. If the root ball look healthy, it should be fine. Just give it time to recover. If the stems are still green, it's still good. Heck, some branch tips on mine are completely brown & dried two weeks in but the rest of the plant survived. They're pretty hardy so no need to stress. Tim
