What a beauty! I too would like to know the id of the tree peony in the first pic. I sure would like to add that to my garden.

The first pic looks like my Shimadaijin tree peony and the second one could be Taiyo.

Whatever the name they are absolutely beautiful!

The flower in the third photo have whiter/lighter edges on the petals, while shimane chojuraku is not so lighter/whiter on the edges of the petals.

How old are these trees? After about 10 years, mine is still less than 12" tall and might produce 3 flowers a year.

It gets plenty of sunlight and water.....
Maybe I need to pay more attention to fertilizer.

Emerogork2, what is the name of your tree peony? 3 flowers are too less and 12" are too short for a 10 years old tree peony.
Maybe you give them too much water? Peonies don't like too much water.

I am not sure how many years of peonies in the photos.

I do not know the variety name but will check to see if there is a tag n the tree.

I don't think too much water as I do not water that area all that much.

Is it possible that being too deep might stunt its growth? I don't know that it is but that is something I can change.

For a while there, a pine tree was encroaching on it's sun supply but that tree has been gone for about 3 years. A hedge about 10' in back of it causes shade after about 2pm or so but it gets full morning sun until then.

Do they do any better in a raised bed?

I have not done much for winter protection, should I be?
There is no damage from winter as I do not have to prune out any dead wood and I don't see any damage from animals or insects.

Emerogork2, r u sure it is a tree peony? or it is a herbaceous peony?

Tree peony need to plant deeper than herbaceous peony, they do better in a raised bed and well drained places. All sounds o.k. I don't know what's the problem.

Maybe you can test the acidity of soil. They don't like very acid soils.

Maybe you can set up a new topic and post some pictures and more people will give you advices.
