Well, if you want for your plants to survive, it helps to research them before you buy them and be sure they can survive in your conditions, and I mean that in a nice way.

Jasmine "Madison" (Trachelospermum jasminoides) "Madison" is not reliably cold hardy in northern Oklahoma and, while it MIGHT make it through a very warm (as in warmer than average) winter in zone 6, it generally cannot survive winters in the northern half of the state. Even though it is a zone 7-9 plant, it even has a hard time surviving some winters here in zone 7B in southern Oklahoma.

To give your plant the best chance of survival, plant it on the south or southeastern side of your home in good sandy loam or very well-amended clay soil. It will struggle if the soil is excessively sandy, clay-ey or rocky. The soil should have lots or organic material like compost, pine bark fines, manure, etc. and should have a loose, fluffy texture. It needs a pH of 5.5 to 7.5. Keep it moist, but not sopping wet, not only during the hot months but during the colder ones as well.

If you are truly intent on keeping it alive, grow it in a large pot (be sure it has adequate drainage) and carry it inside before freezing weather occurs. You could overwinter it inside if you can place it near a sunny window where it gets quite a bit of winter sun.

The larger issue is why your plants keep dying. If you are planting plants that are well-adapted to your soil conditions and growing zone, and you are giving them adequate water (not too much, and not too little) and you have good soil with adequate organic material and good fertility, your plants should have as much of a chance of surviving as anyone else's plants.

Gardening is a wonderfully fulfilling pasttime and I hope you have success with it. For what it is worth, even when I lived in zone 8 in Ft. Worth, Texas, I lost "Madison" in colder-than average winters. Just because it "can" survive as far north as zone 7 doesn't mean it always does. One reason some plants, like Jasmine, don't survive our winters is that our temperatures often plunge drastically down into the teens or single digits from relatively "warm" temperatures in the 40s, 50s, or 60s. That sudden change is hard on plants. Most plants do better in areas where they are subjected to a more gradual (and long-lasting) cool-down. Another problem for plants like jasmine is that they get "fooled" by our occasional warm winter days when temperatures may go up into the 70s, and sometimes the 80s and 90s. Those periodic warm days can trick plants into thinking it is spring, so they gear up to grow and bloom, and then get frozen back or killed when cooler, more seasonal temperatures return.

Thanks for your help. I've decided that I'm going to plant it in a large pot and bring it in this winter, along with the mandevilla that I bought. If I can keep my cat out of it it should survive. Any advise on that? I have had good luck with my plants while they are outdoors. I'm trying my hand at things that come back every year and that I don't have to bring in.

Cats love containers and it is hard to keep them out. There are a couple of simple tricks that can work, though.

If you have a tree that produces anything that is rough or prickley, like pine cones or sweetgum seedballs, put them on the top of the soil in the container as a mulch. The cats won't like that!

Or, use some kind of stones....river rock, lava rock, etc. as a mulch. Usually cats will stay out of a container mulched with rocks, and the larger or rougher the rocks, the better. I wouldn't use something really, really small like gravel.

Be sure you use a good, well-drained potting soil and that the containers have good drainage holes. Most container plants that die do so because they are overwatered and stay too wet, not because they are underwatered and stay too dry.
