Here's the first Coral N Gold. Have a bigger plant in the front yard but it hasn't opened yet, go figure.

And here's Heidi. This one is supposed to be a mid-season and it only had one bud this year. Another casualty of our crazy spring weather?

Singing in the Rain and Victore de la Marne are on the verge of being open, maybe I'll have pics of them tomorrow!

They are all very pretty. I got Francois Verhaert last year from someone on the LA and when it came if was much smaller than I expected. I planted it in the garden and it did not live. I guess I should have tried a pot. Thank you. Jane

Here's a few more that were open this morning: another blossom of Soleil d'Or Its parent Persian Yellow, which was rather hard to photograph--the petals kept reflecting too much light. another of Persian Yellow's decendents, Harrison's Yellow. Looks quite similar doesn't it? Actually Persian Yellow's blooms are a bit larger. Stanwell Perpetual is very chlorotic this year, so much so that its blooms are white instead of pink. Its actually going to a new home later today, hopefully it will be happier there. Reine des violettes is not looking so violet--I guess is got too hot too quickly to see the really purple blooms it had last autumn. and one more blossom from the Rosa santa Richards not Andrews band befoe I remove it and the rest of the buds and give it a chance to grow. This blossom shows off a bit more of its pink tint than the last post did. I had a few more blooms, but the one of my very favorite rose, Geranium Red, was looking rather battered and I refuse to photograph him looking less than his best. But oh, the fragrance!! Speaking of which, I've always heard Persian Yellow and Harison's Yellow had very bad fragrances, but I found them mild and pleasant.

Sorry about the lost plants. I'm really surprised about the rain lilies. I've been tempted by some of the fancy coneflowers, but now I'm glad I never bought any after hearing your experiences with them. At first I had horrible luck growing them. I'd start them from seed inside in the winter and then transplant in the spring, after which they'd slowly die. I finally just started direct planting the seed outside and that did the trick for me. Now they are prolific self seeders. I have moved a couple and they sulk for 2-3 months before re-establishing themselves. They really seem to resent root disturbance.

A couple more roses blooming this weekend. A couple of blooms of Quietness, the were hidden in the middle of the plant so I had to bring them out with my hand to photograph. Now, this rose is an almost certainly mis-identified one I got just as Vintage Gardens was closing. It was sold to me as Jenny Duval, but it doesn't look anything like either of the suspects for that rose. I'm going to guess it is either a gallica seedling of some kind, or a very slightly different version of the old Apothecary's Rose, which is greatly resembles. It was a bit more fragrant and much more vigorous/invasive than the Apothecary's Rose I had at the time, so I'm not actually sure what it is. This is actually a sucker I separated from the parent plant last year, the parent still hasn't started blooming yet.

Very pretty! Love Coral n gold, of course, I don't have any corals. I always lean toward what I don't have :)
Catalogs always have bloom times for peonies, daylilies & iris, but mine refuse to bloom when they are supposed to. Good think I do know my peonies or I would have a hard time with a couple of them.

And this is Coral Sunset. My iphone didn't do it justice, it made it look more pink, I'll try again later with a camera instead. This one is my favorite coral, it stands up nice and tall, no staking needed. It has really dramatic coloring, hopefully I can get a better photo! And it has no side buds so I don't feel like I'm sacrificing later blooms if I cut it for inside.

This photo of Coral Sunset is a bit better, probably a bit too bright but it doesn't show as pink....
