Is there a need for a heating pad after germination?
Comments (3)Yes, you can remove them. Once they germinate, they prefer it a little bit cooler in my experience. At least, I have never noticed anything gained from keeping them on the mat, except it helps with not using so much dadgum electricity lol....See MoreHeating Pads (Linda?)
Comments (11)Is 73 degrees too hot for rooting leaves? What is a good temperature for rooting leaves? I will check the temp tonight with soil because (Hurray) I got some leaves. I think if anyone didn't have a good people heating pad, the seeding mats are the way to go. I read people pads were dangerous, of course I am careful with mine, not a drop of water, plugged into a good electrical surge protector and my pad/pots are on top of a wood burning stove. But I saw a post by someone on the "seed" thread and he said, (I quote) "If heating pads were dangerous, us incontinent old geezers would be fried in our metal frame beds." Even so, I recommend the proper seed mats (excepting me of course)...See MoreWill rooted cuttings grow if put on heating pad?
Comments (9)I have a leaf I potted 5/29/14. Finally a mouse ear (new growth) the other day. You can try a heating pad. You can try spells and incantations. You can try swearing or sweet talking or soothing or stimulating music. You can slam the pot down or tug on the leaf to stimulate it into survival mode or so it is said. Other than the standard light soil mix, moist but not soggy in bright light, which is standard procedure, there many purported ways to speed the process. You can add lotions and potions, vitamin B or rooting hormones, a bit of superphosphate or a pinch of fairy dust. Leaves take their own sweet time. Some claim temperature is important but my plain green leaves seem to root best in the 60 degree range, rather than warmer. It may be that variegated leaves need higher temperatures to stimulate chlorophyll production. Comments (0)I bought a heating pad last week to start my plants for the garden. But I got the problem when leaving the seedlings on the mat for several days without monitoring them, they would get to hot and start to dry or burn up the seedlings. This was the perfect solution. Itc-306t controller has a probe that you stick in the soil and it feeds information to the controller to regulate the temperature of the heating mat. It also allows you to adjust the temperature a lot higher than other controllers. I am very pleased and so are my little seedlings....See Moretsheets
