Different grasses require different amounts of fertilizer, and theoretically you could fertilize every week, but the amount of fertilizer would have to be very small. Let's say the fields are Bermuda grass. In the growing season Bermuda requires about 1 lb of nitrogen per 1000 square feet, per month. Now if you broke that up into .20-.25 lb increments, you could fertilize every week, and in a way, it is a better to fertilize this way as it minimizes leaching, and provides a steady stream of nitrogen instead of one big shot, even though slow release fertilizer exists and could do the same job with a monthly application (it's also probably more expensive than quick release fert). Fertilizer is relatively harmless, unless you get it in your eye, or eat a bunch of it. Most fertilizers should be watered in after application, which will dissolve a good portion of any fertilzer put down. Does the school irrigate after applying fertilizer?

Hi, AV's are easy plants to care for once you get the hang of growing them. I cannot tell you how often to water. It depends on light, heat, etc. in your home. But, I do let mine dry out on top of the soil before I water again. Then I bottom water and let it soak for 20 minutes. Water that is not absorbed is poured out. I also use Shulz fertilizer. If the plants are not flowering, I fertilize every watering. When buds set I slow way down on it. Then I fertilize sparingly. I think in the winter you should let them be a bit drier and fertilize less. Remember, they need a bright position (east is best, or west) to flower well. Good luck and enjoy! Jen

I feed potted tropicals like begonias, fuschias, cannas, bananas, brugmansia, (plants that bloom and feed heavily)once a week with Miracle Grow. I have two kinds - one for blooms and one all purpose. Haven't killed anything yet, not with fertilizer anyway.
