Aji Amarillo vs Aji Yellow

Would someone please tell me if Aji Amarillo and Aji Yellow are one in the same pepper? I am looking for a pepper with a lemon/citrusy flavor that is hot but not over the top, ie 40000-50000. Thanks for any clarification you can give me.

Aji Yellow is yellow and could be one of several C.Baccatums

Aji Amarillo is orange when ripe and looks different.

Mine are only part yellow when ripening.Never all yellow.

Aji Yellow/ Lemon Drop is a great pepper to grow! Hot yet citrus-lemon flavor! Did well last year.

Seysonn: Not ever growing any of the Ajis, I wouldn't know. Down here, with so much Mexican influence, it's CHILES. So, traditional habs( the hot, hot ones) would be Chile Habanero. Different Spanish dialects for all the Spanish speaking countries. But Ajis must have something different about it in the name AND species(baccatum). After all, there's a reason why the Country Chile is named so. Dunno. Yep Diatomaceous Earth works on slugs too. The problem with it is it's ineffectiveness once it becomes wet. And when do slugs come? When the soil's WET. Believe it or not, I have a slug problem here in DRY SoCal. Never seems to be a problem for my peppers though. Maybe for seedlings, but i just sprinkle some iron phosphate and some DE after planting and before I know it, the plants are big enough to fend for themselves. Pam: I say you ARE pedantic. Baccatums I grew this year were Lemon Drop, Aji Amarillo, Birgit's Locoto, Aji Santa Cruz, Bulgarian Teardrop, Brazilian Starfish and Aji Habanero. BRAZILIAN STARFISH I'll probably photograph today, and then taste it for the first time. Real real late the pods started ripening a lot at once. LEMON DROP and BIRGIT'S LOCOTO are my favorites for looks and flavor. Birgit's is the most productive variety I've seen. In fact, I'm no longer gonna' grow Serranos as my workhorse (eat 'em unripe) pepper, because the unripe Birgit's tastes better and is much more plentiful. And when they ripen, they taste just as great as Lemon Drops, or better. AJI HABANERO has a really beautiful pod, slightly larger and oranger than Lemon Drop. There's practically zero heat, repeat: practically zero heat. I'll grow it again next year because I'd miss not having it around. BULGARIAN TEARDROP was the very first pepper plant to start looking nice in my garden. The pods developed a nice pumpkin shape early, and were an off-white color for a long time before turning orange. When I gave little bags of peppers to friends, the Bulgarian Teardrops were the most elegant in the bunch. AJI AMARILLO I grew a different strain from last year, and the new ones have humongous pods that still haven't ripened. AJI SANTA CRUZ I grew at a location far from my house, where I never managed to commute to often enough. None of the peppers I grew there came out well, but I did harvest some Aji Santa Cruz's and one thing I'll say is the pods do grow big, with grooves like an Asian cucumber. Several people traded or gave me seeds for most of these, and I thank them and hope they read this.

Well I'm bettin' David's Chainsaw Theory works! About a year ago I saw a program on PBS about how plants "communicate" with each other, and since I don't have any trouble AT ALL with saying goodbye to cottonwood roots, ever since that show when I cut out cottonwood roots I chop them up in little pieces and bury them right around what's left of the root I cut off! Don't really know if it's working in intimidating other roots from growing into that area, but I figure at the very least I'm adding some good organic matter to the soil right there! I'm no good, either, at saying goodbye to seedlings--they just seem so very small and helpless!--but maybe snipping a scissors loudly enough over the runts might just make them think twice about their lazy habits! Who knows! But after watching that show I do know this, plants are WAY smarter than we humans give them credit for! Not sure this has anything to do with peppers! Skybird P.S. And I do know this! For almost 20 years now I've been pulling out white hairs, and at 70 I still have 99.99999% brown hair. My theory is that I'm terrorizing the brown ones enough that they're scared "to death" to turn white!!!

I think I read somewhere that the species Aji peppers belong to set well in cooler weather. Does anyone know if this true?

They do well in hot or cool temps.Mine have buds and pods now on them with 40 degree nights lately.
They have easily survived a bunch of mid 30 degree nights too.
Like Manzanos,cool weather doesn't bother mature plants.I don't know about new plants though.

Even the young plants grow well in cool weather. When I put plants of different varieties outside in cool weather, the Aji Lemon Drops grew the fastest. It also makes them a prime target for aphids until the ladybugs arrive.

if memory serves me correctly the word "Amarillo" is the spanish word for "yellow" i have seen the pepper advertised "AJI AMERILLO"(yellow) so i would say its the same pepper in terms of labeling, their is however a close relative which is the "AJI PERU"' its not quite as large as the yellow but taste basiclly the same,the aji yellow is not as hot as the lemon drop and is larger and generally fatter in appearance, there is another called "AJI PANCA" ITS THE SAME SIZE AS THE YELLOW AND TASTE BASICLLY THE SAME BUT THE PANCA IS BLACK ON THE OUTSIDE AND GREEN ON THE INSIDE, the red tint could be due to cross pollination at some point but not the only reason, im not an expert on the subject but i have seen all these peppers enough to know which are which, THEY ARE MY FAVORITE!!
