I think you need to give these guys a break that run this now. The rules are given out when you sign on to be here, and if you try to be honest you do your best not to break the rules. Anyone that has a site that sells anything, the link can't be posted and people who sell for a living can't advertise plants. Now, if I had my articles in a strictly educational website, then there wouldn't be a problem, but you can still hit the back button, or click the link for fertilizer and you will find something for sale. I'm president of the Cycad Society. If I put in a link to the society site and we had my articles in there, then this would be alright, while I guess technically, we are trying to sell memberships, but I think they would let that one slide. What does bother me though, is that hobbiest can talk about trading things and selling small things and they get away with that. At least, from what I hear there are new people running this board. There used to be a guy named Spike that everybody ragged on, and I understand why. All I mentioned one time was the big sale at USF Botanical Garden in Tampa and that our society (locally the Central Florida Palm and Cycad Society)would have a booth. It was a thread where everyone was talking about the sale and who was going, and this Spike guy sent me a fairly nasty letter. Well, I was off this forum for about a year. I help people on about 8 different forums, which includes my own cycad forum and for what it is worth, the people on this forum didn't get my help for a year. I kept looking at all these easy questions about people and their little sagos in the house and nobody would answer their questions. Now, I may not be the best expert in the world on cycads, but if it is any kind of cultivation question, I don't think there is anyone who can ask me a question that I can't answer.(unless it requires a picture, or if you don't give me enough information, like "my cycad is dying, whats wrong with it?") I would like to see more questions about unusal cycads, I do get a little tired of having only sago questions, where I have experience growing over 200 species. I do feel that in many cases, most people who get into cycads start with a sago and go from there. The King sago, (Cycas revoluta) is the most commonly grown cycads in the world. I think most people don't realize what other kinds of cycads are out there or they would try others. Some are easier to grow, some are more cold hardy, and most don't get Asain scale. Cycads can have the typical fountain form with dark green leaves if you require that look, or you can have something that looks a lot like bamboo, which is upright growing, and you have cycads that look like ferns, like stangerias, bowenias, and zamias like Zamia fischeri. Anyway, I'm trying it again and will check in every few days just to see if there is some interesting cycad question. I've grown 275 species of palms, so I could probably field many of the palm questions, but I don't think I'm that good with palms compared to many other people in my local society. Also, I other things to do like take care of 30,000 plants all by myself, and everything else it takes to make a living. Anyway, it is good to be back.

I agree... this species seems to do great in sloggy soils and constantly wet pots as well as more typically maintained 'somewhat damp' ones.... though they also tolerate drying out to some degree (as do many Chamaedoreas). The darker it is indoors, though, the more they seem to become susceptible to rot, so keep it bright (just no direct sun as already mentioned). Low humidity is tough on many house palms... hard to do much a bout unless you commonly go about the house spraying your palm foliage (preferably with deionized water). As long as one avoids toxic build up of salts they should do OK. Brown tipping can be an adjustment to your 'non-greenhouse' conditions, a sign of salt build up, super high mineral content in the tap water, excessive drying out or low humidity (a good thorough watering monthly to 'rinse out' the salt build up helps.. .or better yet, put your plant outdoors when it rains (rainwater is magical when it comes to cleaning out soils in potted plants)).

OH, didn't realize size of plant... indeed could be furfuracea... definitely planted too deep (planting an integrifolia that deep might not be a problem, but wouldn't recommend that either, but definitely not a good idea for a furfuracea... want a good deal of the plant base/caudex to above soil . Plant below is in pot, but that's how I would plant one out in the soil (maybe even higher if heavy rainfall area). Plant above is potted, but that still shows about how far out of the soil the caudex should be. Never seen a Zamia planted that deeply... just asking for problems.
