plant swap near Pittsburgh sunday Sept. 16th

We are having a plant swap in my neighbors huge yard that she and I are hosting. We will have the plant swaping first a covered dish lunch afterwards.we are inviting lots of gardeners. It is 10 minutes from Pittburgh on Troy Hill if you are interested I will e-mail you directions It will be 10AM to 1PM that way if you have something else to do that day we will be done early.Also if you would like to bring a garden item other than plants as a doorprize your name will be entered for the doorprize drawings(could be handmade garden signs, tools things like that)I hope to see some of you gardenwebbers. Post here and I will get directions to you.

WHAT I PLAN TO BRING: I have a really cool fig tree that I got at another plant swap. Once I got it home and realized that I'd have to do special care for it to overwinter it, I began to doubt my enthusiasm. I'm more of a "poke-it-in-the-ground and hope-for-the-best" kind of gardener. So, I plan on bringing it. It's grown quite well in the big pot I have it in and is looking really healthy and green.

I also have a lot of purple cone flowers and rudbeckia that I just don't know if I should bring or not. Anyone else who has them already has a LOT of them, I'm sure. If anyone is interested in them, please let me know...I can bring a very generous trade of either of them.

I have some jack-in-the-pulpit plants that don't look all that great right now just because it's that time of year for them...they'll transplant well and will look beautiful next year. I have a few trades of them.

Other things I might be able to bring:
- columbine (light pink doubles)
- yellow or burgundy iris
- tulip tree seedlings
- ginko tree seedlings
- red sedum
- hmmmm...I'll have to go out to look in my garden to see what else.

THINGS I'D LOVE TO TRADE FOR:
I am looking for a money tree plant, a quaking aspen tree/seedling, flowering bushes, another chinese lantern (patty?).

I'll bring some fruit salad, too, for the covered dish lunch.

I think we're going to need at least 2 threads, including one for what people are bringing or looking for. If nobody objects, though, can we keep both on the 'discussion' side, and not bother with the 'exchange' side? There's really no advantage to using the exchanges for an event like this, it's meant for individuals to post plants they're going to share as individuals. Our posts about what we're planning to bring will be more of a discussion, like any other discussion, with the occasional summary that someone or another may spontaneously write up.

Blake Taylor, I'll have some yellow daylily ready for you. mmqchdygg I'd love some of your bee balm if you have neough. I've actually seen so many things from everybody that start the salivating, but I'll just have to try to get more for me swap next year! Does anybody want hosta? I have two kinds. One kind is planted around the entire perimeter of my house, and each plant can easily be divided into four sections. I divided one into three at the beginning of the year, and each section now looks as big as the original. They would be the standard hosta with kelly green leaves that are about 6" long. The second kind has variegated smaller leaves which are more slender and pointier. Right now they are getting a lot of sun and are small. I have no idea how old they are, so I don't know if they are a smaller variety or are stressed by the sunlight so are not growing. They really need to be relocated but I don't have a place for them now, and I'm not the biggest hosta fan. It would be smarter to give them to somebody who needs them! I also have a big sedum patch, if anybody needs some. If I remember correctly, I think it's standard Autumn Joy. I should know by the swap what it is.

Hi Annie (and daughters) I hope to make your swap on Sept 29. I wanted to show you a very nice pot I put together this year and see if you approve. It is calla lily, canna, acidanthera and impatiens. I am rather proud of this one, as the actual pot that holds soil is only 11" deep and sits atop of the larger display pot. It would be way too heavy if the whole thing was filled with soil. I think I will be bringing some blue lobelia, a nikko blue hydrangea and a verbenum tomentosum (wedding cake plant) and some primrose japonica - Miller's Crimson. People have really liked the primroses in the past as they come back every year and spread just a little. When you plant the japonica primroses they need to be kept damp, so I find a small piece of rug in the planting hole does the trick, as it always remains damp in the soil. Helloooo Fellow NH Swappers, Thank you Annie for being our hostess and for opening your home, barn, gardens, kitchen, and yes, your heart to all of us. I so enjoy coming up there and seeing you and all of the other swappers too. I got some great plants and have not yet planted them (this weekend for sure!) but they have been generously watered by Mother Nature. The day was good, and we had nice weather and our luncheon and raffle was loads of fun. Now I know how you stay so slim, you never sit down! Thanks for showing me how to set up a Havahart trap for critters.... Hopefully I won't have to do it! Your brugs by the pool - awesome. A testament to your gardening ability. I'll look on Facebook for some photos. I know we didn't take as many as other years, but at least there are some! See you in the Spring. Surely we're having another one!

Fusty I'm sure someone would trade for your coneflower and rudbeckia I moved my chinese lanterns and the plant is pretty small but they spread like weeds I will look where they were before I bet I can find you some as for the money tree do you mean lunaria with the white oval shaped seed pods? they are biennials I have a wintersown seedling that will bloom next year I can bring for you, my jack in the pulpit I got from you is huge and has a huge head of berries right now .
I personaly am looking for anything I don't have which sometimes can be tuff as you know Fusty anything on my list

Sorry we won't see you at our Western PA Fall Plant Swap on Sept. 8th, Patty. Could you come and leave early, if the band festival is early in the day? Thank goodness my daughters' festivals were evening events!

Anyway, since our swap is close to Pittsburgh too, why don't all of you posting here consider coming to our swap on the 8th, then Patty's the next weekend, on the 16th? We'd love to have all of you!
