I'm not sure I know the names of that many plants Dawn. I'll bet it is beautiful with all of that blooming. I don't have that many flowers to bloom but will try to make a list tomorrow.

What kind of begonia do you have? That is something that seems to do very well here. I have one that is almost like a ground cover. What do yours look like?

If it wasn't pitch dark outside, I'd take the computer outside so I could do a more thorough job :)

My begonias are just the common, ordinary wax-leaf begonias that you buy in six-packs. They grow extremely well here as long as they are fenced in somewhere so the deer and rabbits can't eat them. Sometimes I grow angelwing begonias on the screened-in back porch, either in containers or in hanging baskets. I can't have the angelwings outside because something (I'm thinking it's deer) eats them down to the soil line EVERY TIME. Whatever it is that eats them, they get them the very first week I put them outside every single time. So, I no longer put them outside!)

Many of my different basils are trying to flower, but I keep pinching them back.

The chaste tree (Vitex agnus-castus) also started blooming a few days ago, but no blooms on the desert willow yet. In fact the desert willow doesn't look good this year. It has signicant dieback. I am afraid last year's heavy rains kept it waterlogged and I may lose it.

A morning glory I hadn't even noticed bloomed on Monday, but it had reseeded on its' own and was climbing a tomato plant's cage, so I pulled it up. (I did feel bad about it because I love MGs, but not on the tomato cages.) It was a "Grandpa Ott" MG.

And, most of the flowers that started blooming several weeks ago are still blooming, so everything looks pretty nice right now.

The native blackberries are ripe and they look pretty.

The tomatoes and peppers continue to bloom. Even though having tomatoes blooming is nothing "new", I am still happy to see each and every blossom!

I just returned from a trip to Santa Fe and found the daisies, hollyhocks and monarda are blooming. These hollyhocks are the ones with the black blooms and they are so cool-looking. This is only my second year to grow hollyhocks. Last year's blooms were pink. I haven't had time to look around and find out what else is in bloom. The lilies are going to bloom any day now -- and the gerbera daisies.

OKPrairie, Santa Fe! Oh, what fun! I've grown those maroonish-black hollyhocks before and they are gorgeous. Thomas Jefferson grew them at Monticello. I haven't grown them for several years now. Lately I've been growing the fig-leafed hollyhocks, Queeny Purple, Queeny Mix and one old-fashion single flowered one that reseeds every year and I don't remember its' name.

Susan, It sounds like your yard is really looking grand right now. My parsley that overwintered from last year is blooming and is huge. I'm going to miss it when it is done.

I love this time of year when so much is in bloom. Well, I guess every month has its' blooms, but there are just so many in May and June.

Santa Fe was great. We had a little family gathering in a vacation rental house we found in Pojoaque, which is north of Santa Fe. It was one of several houses on the grounds of an old Spanish ranch. There were farm animals for the grandbabies to pet and our house overlooked a gorgeous garden and pond with peonies like I'd never seen in all different colors. It was great fun and not terribly expensive since it's the off-season out there.

It sounds so nice. What colors were the peonies? And were they the usual size and all, or were they tree peonies? I had a co-worker when I was in my mid-20s who grew tree peonies and they were the most gorgeous flowers I'd ever seen. She had yellow ones and white ones. I've never even known anyone else who grows tree peonies, and I remember her telling me that they were a lot of work to maintain for a fairly short blooming period, but were worth it to her.

Dawn, my neighbor across the street grows tree peonies. He has 3 of them with different bloom colors. They bloom beautifully as you say, for a very short time. The rest of the year, IMHO, the foliage looks very ragged. He has them on the East side of his house.

Dawn, my fennel (azorica; bulb) is starting to flower. I always cut off the blooms because the wasps love them and the baby cats. I mean, the come in droves! I had a mower man who was scared to mow my lawn because of so many wasps. He was allergic. So, now I cut them off. They didn't seem to care about the zizia or parsley blooms (same family, apiaceae), but they dearly love the fennel blooms.

The peony color that surprised me was red. I had never seen them in that color. They were all the usual size bush peonies and surrounded the huge garden and pond.

I haven't mentioned that my larkspur is blooming and is gorgeous - in a deep purple, pink and white. This year I decided not to thin them like I usually do, and they are really pretty en masse. I think all the flowers are prettier this year - probably because of all the rain for the past two springs.

OKPrairie, I didn't thin my larkspur either, but only because I never got around to doing it! They have looked great for several weeks, but are about done now.

Is anybody seeing any new blooms in the yard or garden?

So far, almost everything that had started blooming still continues to bloom, although some of the earliest plants have finished up.....the poppies are done, and the chamomile and chives are done temporarily but will rebloom again later.

The desert willow is FINALLY blooming, and more cleomes and zinnias bloom every day. The nasturtiums are hanging on pretty well despite the heat and wind. Most years they play out in June, but every now and then I can coddle them through the heat and get them to rebloom in the fall.

The chaste tree is in full, glorious bloom. In the garden, the green-flowered nicotiana is also looking gorgeous right now. Gazania daisies have begun blooming. Most of the herbs are trying to bloom (various basils, lemon balm, lemon verbena, borage, catnip, etc.) and I am mostly pinching them back and removing blooms so they'll make more foliage.

Tomatoes and peppers continue to bloom and set fruit, although some of the pepper plants the deer ate are having to struggle because he got about 90% of the foliage. Some of the potatoes are blooming. (If you grow potatoes, you know that you can usually harvest some new potatoes about the time you see the first blooms!) The beans are blooming in great profusion.

My favorite flowers in the cottage border right now are the Queeny Mix hollyhocks, which are blooming in a lovely variety of colors--yellow, white, dark red, rose, pink, and purple. Interplanted with them are "Laura Bush" petunias, which have grown to an approximate height of 2' and spread of 4'. Between the hollyhocks and petunias, you can barely see the other plants, which is fine. Later on, some of the other plants will have their peak moment.

I have monarda blooming everywhere - in the side yard by the pond, where I first planted them about five years ago - and in the front bed, where I transplanted a few last year. They are beautiful, but this is the first year they have tried to take over - as I have heard they will. I really like them, though. They are the Jacob Kline variety with the big red blooms. I love their smell, too.

In front I have big blooms on the butterfly bush. The Russian sage is blooming. Gaura, coneflower, Shasta daisies, and columbine under the tree. Liatris is on the verge.

They aren't blooms, but the Japanese painted fern is finally starting to look like it's supposed too. I have also noticed it is much more available in big box stores this year and cheaper.

In back my lilies are blooming - day lilies and either oriental or asiatic. I can never remember which is which, but they are gorgeous. The others are getting ready to bloom. The cannas are getting ready to open, too. Karl Forester grass is blooming - first time for that. I was about ready to take it out. In the deck bed there are some of the orange cosmos about to open. Cleome is blooming. I have calla lilies blooming in the middle of a mint patch, so you can just barely see them. I am so far behind with the weeding. Pickeral and water lilies are blooming in the pond.

That's all I can think of. It will be very beautiful if I can ever get it all weeded.

I have been waiting all week for my big yellow day lily to bloom. It finaly did.

I'll have to photograph my Monarda 'Thundercloud' - it is such a beautiful red. The Monarda fistulosa is blooming, too. The datura has tons of blooms on it; my very small Bottlebrush Buckeye has one bloom (only its second year), and the buds have just opened! Oh my, it is gorgeous!

Passiflora ceurulea is blooming - they are so gorgeous and smell wonderful!

Lavendar x intermedia 'Provence' is blooming like crazy. I love the smell of lavendar.

My big yellow daylilies are about to bloom. They are rebloomers. The old-fashioned oranges are in bloom, and my peach daylilies are blooming, too.

My Tiger Babies are blooming like crazy (pink with recurved petals).

Hibiscus 'Kopper King' has buds - it is the most beautiful hibiscus I've ever seen! Coppery foliage and pale pink blooms.

PM - that is one gorgeous lily! My Gold daylily (don't know the name of it cuz I got at one of the Herb festivals unmarked) is blooming now, too. I love it because it blooms for a very, very long time. Sometimes all summer.

Also, Golden Elegance (oriental) is about to bloom, too. Just love it because it is fragrant. Asiatics have come and gone, but I have the lilium formosanums to look forward to in the fall.

I have plain old-fashioned tiger lilies growing in the shade of hackberries along the drainage ditch. I have been slowly moving them to other locations because they never bloom. I figured they were planted there before the trees grew so tall. What do you know? This year they are blooming - the ones I have moved, but also the ones in the original location. It has been one weird year. Everything is blooming at a different time than it has in the past. I don't mind. I'm just pleased that everything is blooming.

Latest: the cannas and calla lilies.

I've noticed that everything is blooming at odd times too and it sure is strange. Oh, well, I agree with you too, that "I don't mind. I'm just pleased that everything is blooming."

I've noticed that a lot of the early-blooming wildflowers, like meadow pinks and Indian Paintbrush, that generally bloom in the late March to late May timeframe are blooming....again. They've already bloomed. We waited for them to set seed. We mowed the pasture. Then, new ones grew and are now blooming. Just one more oddball thing about this year.

I've been meaning to add this the last couple of weeks and I keep forgetting.

The latest bloomers here are the swamp mallows (large white flowers with a red eye) on the edge of the big pond, and the Texas Red Star Hibiscus, which has bloomed sporadically on and off for a while now (generally only one flower open at a time), but lately has several blooms open at once, a good sign that it has recovered from being grazed by the deer.

Another kind of lily - either oriental or asiatic - is just now blooming. They may be stargazers. I think this is the first time I've seen them bloom, though they come up every year. They are gorgeous.

Cosmos and big red zinnias have started to bloom.
I noticed the liriope is getting ready to bloom. Seems late for that, too.

My butterfly bush has had a growth spurt and grown tall all of a sudden. Many blooms still on that.

Russian sage is covered with blooms.

I have a single bloom on my lemon-lime hydrangea. This is a first. I bought it very small.
