Having Trouble Getting Into Garden Web?

I received an e-mai from a member of our forum who is having a hard time getting into Garden Web. When she tries, she gets a "Bad Message" message and can't log in. Is anyone having similar trouble? I haven't, so I don't have a clue what to suggest to her.

Yep, been having trouble for a couple of weeks now, Some times I can get here, some times not. Very frustrating and I've no clue what to do about it.

Yes, this is the first time I've been able to get in for about 6 hours, It takes me to a page that says the site I'm seaching for does not exist.

I figured at first it was a problem with my pc, but I've run all my security systems and can not find anything wrong at this end,
so??????????????

You probably just have the image in your browser cache. Kinda not nice to delete pictures because then someone looking at the forum message will see a broken image and may spend hours trying to fix their computer, finally get frustrated and throw their shoe at it.

Sue, I did receive your private message and just responded. You are right on. I can not read the message in my email because with HOUZZ it is sent as a "private message". My private email only tells me that somone has sent me a HOUZZ message, thus I have to sign in to HOUZZ to read it .........On GW, we were sending an "email", thus I could read the message in my email.. Hello o o o o Annie, is anybody home???? This is what I say when something is so obvious and I don't figure it out....LOL!!! Email vs private message....kind of basic!!!! If for some reason you don't want to bookmark/favorites the forums you are interested in at least bookmark this link to the forums list You can find all your posts on your profile page just by clicking on your user name. The most recent posts are listed first under Recent Activity. If you want more just click on the Activity link on your page. But that also raises the question as to why one is only interested in their own activity when there is so much to learn from others? ;-) I disagree that finding stuff is difficult. It just takes a bit of exploration and reading and if all else fails just use the search bar at the top of every page. For example you shouldn't have to log in every time unless you want it that way. Just click Your Houzz in the top R hand corner of any page. Yours is http://www.houzz.com/user/laslaslas14 If you will complete your profile (including your location) then most all of it becomes automatic. Dave

Thanks for this thread. I’ve been taken to task, and learned a few things here, while trying to work through some ideas and idiosyncrasies on our current build. At the end of the day, I think we all want something that works for our current situation, isn’t an ugly disaster, and can be attractive for resale at some point down the road. It’s a tightrope act, for sure! My “sins”: We walk through our master closet to reach the master bath. I have a lower level “drive under” garage, but also have a main level carport/patio around back, directly attached to my kitchen, should anyone doubt my ability to carry up groceries. . I have 2 bathrooms with doors to the outside, the master, and a guest bath. (Both exiting poolside.) Said guest bath also connects to my laundry room. It’s my way of minimizing the wet towel problem, and I refuse to apologize. Call it an overreaction, but I’ve lived for 14 years with wet people and towels entering my master bedroom or living room (the closest doors from our current swimming hole.) I’m over it. I may even put a fingerprint lock on the door into my master bath.

Last night I could get to the forum ... but could not bring up any individual posts ... received a page not found error. Today it's working so it appears that iVillage probably had server problems.

Thanks, y'all. I'll e-mail JustSayMo in a minute and let her know everyone else can get in (so far) today. She's had the problem for days and days even when many of us have been on the forum daily. Hearing that Owie has had trouble for days makes me wonder if she and Owie have the same internet service provider.

Brian, should she contact her ISP or GW if she is still having trouble?

Yes, I think it is IVillage again. I couldn't get in last night either. I could get to the forum but couldn't open the messages in Oklahoma Gardening although some of the other forums were OK.

I had the same problem last night after 9:30 p.m. with the Oklahoma Forum but Mo has had it for days and days and days, so I think her problem is something else, but don't know what.

I don't know if any of us really has an answer for Mo or for Diane who's had similar issues the last couple of weeks. It's one thing for us to not be able to get onto the forum for a few hours here or there, but Owie has only been able to get on sporadically over the past couple of weeks, and Mo hasn't been able to get on GW at all.

I did e-ail Mo a couple of suggestions from Brian but I don't know if she's had time to try them yet.

I have Wildblue satellite for internet but don't think that's the problem. No matter when I have trouble here, I have absolutely no problems on other websites. I'm just about the farthest thing from a computer genius you'll ever meet, though.

Try deleting all of the GardenWeb cookies. I had this same problem last week and couldn't get into any forum for several days. Once I deleted all of the cookies no problems.

I have an nephew who is an IT tech and he keeps mine fixed when I need it. I know before I bought my Mac a year ago and had Windows XP I had a lot more trouble with several sites. Since I bought the Mac hardly ever have trouble. Yes last night I'm sure it was the GW server. For those that have been having troubles for a while there is several possibilities. And it takes someone who knows more than me to figure them out. Jay

I'm on a Mac, too. I'm obviously able to get in tonight but it's slow as molasses.
