Catasetum atratum

I have not had a lot of success with Catasetums and their relatives. A lot of plants died a couple of winters ago. I think it was simply too cold and they are very vulnerable when dormant. Most come from further N than here, Mato Grosso and Amazonia, which I think is the reason. This is a typical scary-looking species with that strange medicinal smell that so many have.

    very nice--too cold in Brazil? In Fla. we get very close to freezing every once in a while- winters here in S.Fla get down in the 50's regularly. That temp. doesn't hurt the plants
